The Encyclopedia of Matchbox Toys: 1947-2001

I collected matchbox cars as did my brothers and not all of them are included in this book. The description on the back of the book says nearly all are illustrated via 2447 photos and while it might be the most comprehensive available it is still not complete.It would also be helpful to have an index by year and by car name and by vehicle category.And a minimum of 2 or 3 photos of the same vehicle from different angles or in different colours would add greatly to this book. Notwithstanding these criticisms it remains the best ref guide available and am glad I bought it not cos I wanna sell my vehicles but cos I wanna know the vehicles I could never get as a kid with the pocket money I had and the range available in the local shops.It is a scandal that some great and unique British manufacturers were allowed and continue to be allowed to shut and that s thatcher s fault with her neoliberalist laissez faire economics. Matchbox was a national treasure. As were many car manufacturers like Austin wolseley etc. The french and germans would never have allowed this to happen to their industry and they up skilled and invested in people to survive changing times.

Great for identifying and cataloging my collection

Some cars with certain item refs are hard to find in the price index at the back of the book. it is a good book though.

A gem of a book for all data, information, prices, conditions, just an endless mine of information.Well laid out and easy to follow. Top marks.

Arrived quickly, was just exactly what my husband wanted and he is very pleased with it.

very comprehensive guide , except for price guides , which are spartan and in u.s.dollars . However , a necessary piece of kit .

This is just a book of specials for US Market. Some nice colour pictures but definitely not an encyclopedia. I was expecting every model and version made , but unfortunately not. Too much money for what it's not.

A must for the model collector, even if you do not collect Matchbox models.
