The Inflammation Syndrome: Your Nutrition Plan for Great Health, Weight Loss, and Pain-Free Living Review: Great book for taking charge of your health and beating auto immune disease - Learning a lot from this book, and it is very readable as well. I have RA that has been in remission for 12 years, I am also hypothyroid (auto immune driven), and recently during a stressful period of work I 'gave myself' some psoriasis.... so my body is essentially a playground for auto-immune disease. That said, I know that I can affect the (over) reaction of my immune system and maintain my health with diet, exercise and stress-reducing practices. I was REALLY good at that 12 years ago when I was working to put the RA into remission, and have fallen off the wagon somewhat over the years. When I am not taking care of myself as well, my joints will start to flare a bit, and that snaps me back to better practices. This book is a great refresher course and guidebook. I am also learning some new things (for instance pork will no longer be 'the other white meat' for me). Although I am not a science-minded person, I appreciate the detailed explanations for our body's processes and how certain types of food or lack of vitamins/amino acids create an inflammation response in our bodies. For those suffering from auto immune disease I can honestly attest to the powerful truths of this book. Make these changes and get better! It takes some work but it SO worth it to return your body to it's healthy balance (you will never get there with prescription drugs that just treat symptom after symptom). Our bodies have an amazing power to heal themselves when given the support they need. Short term medical solutions to restore balance or mute the immune response are fine, but for long-term health - the recommendations in this book are the answer. Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK - I LOVE THIS BOOK. Of all the nutritional and health books I have read this one is my favorite. Having some conditions which are aggravated by inflammation I was looking for natural ways to help control it. This book opened my eyes to a lot of things that I was doing and eating that I was oblivious to. It is written in a very readable way, and the author offers really great explanations along with solutions for decreasing or eliminating inflammation. If you already have a good knowledge base on how diet and contribute to inflammation, then some of the things might be redundant, however no matter what you know it is still useful book. I have recommended this book many times, and have even bought a second one for a friend because it is that good. A great answer to learning how to naturally control inflammation! LOVE IT!

Weak on science, but strong on info
My biggest complaint is probably that the author relies a bit too heavily on simple correlation, such as comparing India with the United States in terms of Turmeric consumption and the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease. Honestly, such an inference is terrible science. But to be fair, the majority of his conclusions appear better grounded. I get a feeling while reading it (and yes, I finished it) that only one side of many issues is being shown, leaning toward fallacy of omission. Some of the stories have someone begin to show significant improvement, but then it ends -- leaving me wondering whether the person's problem really did diminish completely and permanently. Regardless of the wishful bias, however, I do believe that the author did a great job of accumulating knowledge on alternative remedies for treating various types of inflammation. To be honest, I doubt many of the substances work well, if at all, for a given individual's inflammatory condition, but at least the book provides a good starting point from which to research products that could be useful. Historically, my experience has been pretty bad with herbs and other alternative substances, but some have worked as promised. The overall premise that the profile of a person's dietary fats and carbohydrates is a primary determiner of his or her inflammatory susceptibility is a concept I remain sceptical about, but at least the recommended fats should be healthful ones (although coconut oil rides the fence). The author exercises reasonable modestly with most of the claims made, which is better than most authors talking about alternative treatments and substances. I feel that the book provides an interesting and possibly accurate perspective on inflammation; and if nothing else, there are many things that a reader might learn from it. It definitely contains food for thought (open the book, and a pineapple falls out...).

The Inflammation Syndrome
Life changing content in this book! The author is highly QUALIFIED to write! The injections that my RA Dr. put me on helped, yet it took much more than that to get rid of the painful inflammation. I have been following a lot of the guidelines written in this book, and I am now 99% symptom free. My doc wanted to put me on an additional medication, in which I refused, saying that it was my goal to get off all meds...he said that it wasn't his. Too bad, I am still working on it, because these are the types of meds that destroy the body, and I am not willing to let this happen. Currently I am waiting for my husband to read this book, because he really needs too, but he is not desperate enough.

Buy this Book!
This book was recommended to me by my Daughter who has always been very smart about doing what's best for good health. She uses her copy so much it is almost worn out. So glad that I listened to her. I have read this book several times already and feel SO much better! My arthritis has improved unbelievably. There is a wealth of information here to help almost any ailment. Don't wait. You'll be SO glad if you order this book. I hope Mr. Challenge writes more about heart disease. His recommendations for diet have helped me immensely!

Excellent book. I like it so much I had to buy the book as reference after listening to it on Audible. I happily recommend this to others.

I saw this book at a library after receiving a cancer diagnosis in early 2015. I read the entire book in less than a week. I then purchased the book from Amazon. It is a great resource to have.

Brilliant book if you have, or know anyone who has, an inflammatory disease. I was surprised how many illnesses are related to the bodies inflammatory system - there are lots I'd never even thought of (even aging itself is hastened by an over-enthusiastic inflammatory response in the body). If you want to learn more about these illnesses this is a really good, well written, book with suggestions re diet (simple really - basically eat REAL food - it's not difficult). I have psoriatic arthritis and was sick of the side effects of the drugs I was on. I stopped taking the drugs (because I do actually like to be able to think and I discovered that the methotrexate I was taking was affecting my ability to think as well as stay awake!). Four weeks off the tablets and I have my head back again, my appetite has returned and I'm eating REAL food, no processed rubbish, and I feel a lot better for it. Interestingly the inflammation in my ankle, ever constant since 2002 regardless of the heavy damaging drugs, is a lot less now and my pain score is down to between 0 and 3, whereas it was always around 6 to 8 or 10 when flare ups started (and that was on pharmaceutical toxins!). Simply eating the foods that are suggested in this book and taking the supplements suggested has eased off the pain that I've had for years. Yes it's possible that I'll have flare ups in the future, having dropped the methotrexate, but I was having them anyway, despite the drugs. I intend to ride future flare ups through and concentrate on anti-inflammatory foods - at least my liver will get a rest. It just doesn't make sense, when your system becomes unbalanced, to suppress the entire immune system with toxins when what you should really be doing is modulating, regulating, re-balancing it. There are things that tell the inflammatory system to turn off - in those with illnesses related to this the system just doesn't turn off, it keeps going. It doesn't take a huge amount of thought to realise that eating foods rich in anti-inflammatory nutrients, and staying off those foods that are pro-inflammatory, is going to make more of a difference to your life than to take a drug which will destroy your liver, mess with your head and rob you of waking hours. I would rather be responsible for my own health now than rely on some doctor/specialist who gains from prescribing toxins. I feel the need for a disclaimer now - coming off your medication is a personal decision that you have to be responsible for yourself - I chose to come off mine, I may yet have cause to regret that decision but I'm getting more confident every day I'm without pain that there is definitely something in this. Buy this book and understand your illness and do as the author suggests. Even if you stay on your medication the diet will counter some of the toxic effects of it and you will feel better in many other ways.

This is a really great book about inflammation. He really goes into detail in places, and I'm struggling to see how the other reviewer gave it two stars. It tells you everything you need to know to start having a massively positive impact on your health right away, and he backs up all his suggestions with the current research, so you can decide for yourself whether you want to follow them. It's also written in a very compelling and easy-to-read way, considering all the talk about nutrition and biochemistry. Some of the recipes are also pretty tasty. An easy way to quickly develop your knowledge on the topic. If there is a downside, it's probably the same downside as the rest of the books on the subject: you need to be prepared to spend money! Ideally, your diet should consist mainly of fresh fish, meat and produce (if possible wild, free range or organic). When you add in the cost of supplements, some of which are very highly priced, it becomes quite a commitment. Of course, this is a result of our toxic food culture, and not the fault of the authors.
