Good MIDI controller for Ableton
I use this for ableton coupled with a launchpad mini and I find it is a good combination.Ableton 11 recognises it without any work on my part. The faders and knobs are sturdy and the unit has a nice solid feel. It is very compact and takes up very little room. The knobs are not infinite so you will need to set up your MIDI inputs accordingly. It makes for a very nice workflow when playing or recording live. With so many assignable knobs and faders it is very versatile and great when mapped to VST instruments or effects and I use it with Koala sampler on iPad occasionally to control effects. There are other controllers that are more professional but I can’t fault this if you are on a budget and want to get some bit away from dragging a mouse.Minor gripe about the size of the text on the channels but I have poor eyesight. Online you can find template overlays for the Midimix but I just use a label maker when I want to customise the setup.Mine was bundled with Ableton Live Lite 11 so if you haven’t tried Ableton it is a nice bonus as it is as a great DAW and I never looked back once having tried Reaper, Cubase, FL etc. before. Not much else in the software included (trial of Reason which I haven’t activated)

The knobs are too small
The knobs are short and slope at a funny angle so it's difficult to operate them.I bought some replacement potentiometer caps and pulled off the old knobs then replaced them with the new ones. I bought several colours to make it easy to see at a glance exactly which knob I should be reaching for.The knobs are on a d type spline so if replacing them you will need that type of potentiometer cap.Despite the knobs this is a very good piece of kit and I would recommend it.

Replaced knobs and away we go!!! Perfect!!!
The media could not be loaded. I agree with a previous reviewer, at least my fingers kept slipping off the original knobs because they are small and tapered. Maybe they work for other people... This is my personal experience only... I replaced the knobs with some new ones I found on eBay. Not cheap, though, about £24 for 24 replacements. Would have been better if Akai had put easier-to-use knobs on to start with, for my big fingers. I would have paid another fiver for straighter knobs... I searched on eBay UK for MidiMix knobs and found some advertised as such. It was a bit tricky getting the old knobs off. I ended up wrapping a bit of nano tape around them and gently pulling them off, one by one. I can only say that it worked for me; up to you what you do. I guess my warranty is now void, but I've kept the old knobs in case they need to go back on. Now with the new knobs pushed on, the MidiMix is perfect for me!!! I do not regret my purchase at all. The MidiMix looks great and now works great, and with new customised knobs, it proudly sits on my mixing desk (sitting up at an angle, held in place with more nano tape), ready for my next big hit production!!!. Easy to use and not too expensive. Works great with Ableton Live. No regrets!!! :-) It was fortunate the new knobs fitted the knob shafts on the unit. I guess I was lucky with my purchase. This is just my personal experience; I am not a professional and don't know if this would work for you. You would have to research it fully and decide for yourself what you do.

24 knobs......!!!
Although this integrates perfectly with Ableton Live as a control surface (ie: an 8 channel fader, mute, arm, pan & fx send controller), what I wanted was a midi controller with as many assignable items as possible. The Midimix does this really well. I use it to control Ableton stock synths and VST plugin Synths (Cherry Audio and IK Multimedia stuff and others). The 9 sliders, 20 buttons and 24 knobs are all assignable and you can really take control of a VST synth (or whatever) and leave the mouse alone. One gripe - the knobs are a little shallow, fine in the studio but a bit of a worry live I would imagine. It feels like a good quality item and is reassuringly weighty. Seventy quid! Just get one!

Excellent Midi Controller
Nice piece of kit but couldn't get Cubase 13 pro to accept the Akai downloaded midi script. After a bit of youtube instruction managed to successfully programme it myself with the Cubase tool. Now working exactly as I needed.

lots of knobs and faders for the money
….but LEDs and some functions only work properly with a single manufacturer’s DAW (which I don’t use).

Its well built and feels pretty sturdy despite its compact size
I was very exited to get this! Its well built and feels pretty sturdy despite its compact size. The faders feel pretty decent for the price, so all in all I'm pretty happy with it, but I am going to give this 4 stars because of a few niggles. The knobs are a bit small for my liking. I like big knobs, I have no problem admitting that, although little ones do the job just fine they are just not as satisfying! It doesn't work with Logic (that I use) so well, no template and the lights don't work so great without messing about, and the send all function does not work (no big deal for me). Spend a bit of time with midi mapping and its useable, but I am inherently lazy and I really just like things to work when I plug them in, so a bit of an anti climax there for me. It feels like Logic was a bit of an afterthought compared to Ableton (which I don't use) with which everything lights up lovely and works fantastically pretty much straight out of the box.All in all a good bit of kit, just the smallish knobs and lack of compatibility with Logic that let it down for me.

The best purchase I've made on Amazon
If you want a midi controller specifically for Ableton Live's 3rd Party VST Plugins, for the size, quality, functionality and speed with which you can set this up, then nothing comes remotely close. At least not for several times the price.I absolutely recommend this!

Muitas possibilidades!
Produto recomendado!

Suprisingly good quality for the price!
I rarely give 5 stars to products. Generally only when the manufacturers go out of their way to make an exceptional product. I was unimpressed to say the least with the more recent low-end MIDI controllers from AKAI. For example MPK 25 MINI Black Edition keyboard is very cheaply made. Knobs are cheap plastic, very loose, the keys are so widely spaced that you can see the green PCB board underneath. It came with ridiculously counterintuitive, difficult to operate software. Took me hours to program pads and even then I couldn't accomplish what I set out to do. Plus awful practically nonexistent customer service where it takes them a month to respond and even then it's broken English. So I was very wary of buying this MIDI MIX controller. I own an older APC 40 by AKAI, and that one is superbly made. Problem is - it's HUGE, heavy and very bulky, won't even fit most backpacks. And needs a bulky power adapter. A little counterintuitive to use, although the range of its capabilities is truly impressive. I needed a much smaller Drum Machine controller for busking and LIVE performances, something I could throw in my backpack alongside my laptop and speakers.Pros: Very well made knobs. Both sliders and knobs feel very high-end, nice and tight, which is ideal for sample switching. Light and small. Plug and play, no need for adapter, works with just the USB cord. Very easy to MIDI learn program any way you want.Cons: Has some connectivity issues. one of the 3 drivers it needed had difficulty installing on my older Windows 7 and my newer Windows 10 machine. "USB device not successfully installed" message although it does show up in my NI Reaktor DAW. I can't get its LEDs to work. I realise that ring lights around knobs is too much to ask for considering it's USB powered, but I really wish the button lights worked, at least. It would also be nice if the knobs were just a tiny bit taller, and so easier to operate and if it had a more rectangular shape rather than a square. Or had a MIDI connection for other hardware capability. But I do realise that for a $108 device AKAI has done a rather impressive job
