![The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring [Extended Edition] [Steelbook] [Blu-ray] [2001]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81mt8bwa4BL.jpg)

Director's extended cut of the famous fantasy adaptation. In part one of the fantasy trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Frodo (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit living in the Shire, a quiet, peaceful part of Middle Earth. When it turns out that his elderly relative Bilbo (Ian Holm) is harbouring the ultimate Ring of Power and the evil Nazgul riders of Sauron, The dark Lord of Mordor, are coming to find it, Frodo is entrusted by wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to deliver the Ring out of the Shire without it falling into their hands. Frodo leaves the Shire aided by his cousins Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and trusty friend Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), but they soon realise that the agents of Mordor are everywhere and that their trip is far from over. Once they reach the Elvish realm of Rivendell the Hobbits form part of the anti-Sauron fellowship, which includes Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas Greenleaf (Orlando Bloom), Gimli the dwarf and of course Gandalf. Together they must battle across Middle Earth to destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom, the fiery chasm in the centre of Mordor.Extra Content: • The Director and Writers Part 1• The Design Team Part 1• The Production and Post Production Team Part 1• The Cast Part 1• Easter Egg - MTV Movie Award Spoof• The Director and Writers Part 2• The Design Team Part 2• The Production and Design Team Part 2• The Cast Part 2• Easter Egg - Two Towers Sneak Peek• Peter Jackson Introduction• JRR Tolkien Creator of Middle Earth• From Book to Script• Storyboards and Pre-Vis: Making Words into Images• The Prologue• Orc Pursuit into Lothlorien• Sarn Gebir Rapids Chase• Gandalf Rides to Orthanc• The Stairs of Khazad-Dum• Storyboard to Film Comparison: Nazgul Attack at Bree• Bridge of Khazad Dum• Bag End Set Test• Designing Middle-Earth• Weta Workshop• Costume Design• Design Galleries with selected Audio Commentary• Middle-Earth Atlas Interactive• New Zealand as Middle-Earth Interactive• Elijah Wood Introduction• The Fellowship Cast• A Day in the Life of a Hobbit• Cameras in Middle Earth• Scale• Big-atures• Weta Digital• Editorial: Assembling an Epic• Digital Grading• The Soundscapes of Middle-Earth• Music for Middle-Earth• The Road Goes Ever On...• Behind the Scenes Review: Excellent on every level - I remember thinking the movie was good but not great but, re-watching it, it seems superb. Maybe it's the extended scenes (plus the handful of scenes that weren't there at all in the original cut) that have led to me revising my opinion upwards but mostly I think it's just that, with the passage of time, I've come to appreciate how well Jackson captured the book. I've re-read Tolkien's original since I first saw the movie and am now astonished at how well the story has been brought to life. The acting is superb, for one thing. And some of the ways that the movie departs from the book are actually improvements, eg the Council of Elrond (a succession of speeches in the book, a dramatic debate in the movie) is much more interesting. Mostly though it's very faithful to a truly great novel. And by the way my appreciation of the book has also increased over time. As a kid I thought it was great, as a young adult I thought, "yeah it's good but not comparable with real literature such as Joyce etc", but now I just think: masterpiece. The epic sweep is incredible, easily on a par with Homer etc. Yes the characters aren't as emotionally rich as in, say, Saul Bellow novels but it's not that sort of book. It is a story, first, last and always, and an incredibly good one. And the movie does better justice to it than we had any right to expect. PS It's very, very, VERY long, and we found it best to watch it in several sittings, savouring it for an hour or so each time. Review: Beautiful Steelbook! Great Service desertcart.co.uk - Thank You desertcart.co.uk for an amazing service, quick to my door, and my collectable was amazingly protected. All at a great price! This 5 Disk blu ray extended edition steelbook is beautiful. Glad to have it in my collection, for sure! Sorry, have no plans to open. I have all editions of this movie, LOTR Fellowship of the Ring. Blu rays, I have watched on my 60 inch Samsung Plazma TV, have a great picture and sound great thru my Denon/Mirage speakers. Definitely worth an upgrade from DVD, in my opinion.

The beginning of an unforgetable saga
The beginning of an excellent trilogy loved by so many people around the world deserved a good package such as this one. There are no adjectives to add to the film, everything was already spoken. I hope the following 2 sequels earn a package such as this one. In my opinion a must have for those who love Tolkien's work.

Wonderful Adaptation
I bought this version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy to match the Blu-Ray versions of the Hobbit and I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. Even though it's still spread over two discs (the Fellowship) in blu-ray quality was even better than I remember when I went to see it in the cinemas. I love the movies as I've been a fan of all things Tolkien for over 40 years. A definite must buy.

Great film
Great film wonderfully acted and great camera work. Special effects are superb and the 5 disc extended version came with lots of extras. Good value and recommend you buy. 5 stars well deserved.

Nice space saving version.
Crisp clear image, shames the DVD version. Sounds better too. The compact steelbook design frees up space on my shelf. The movie is the extended version. Plenty of extras. Bargin price. Just hope the Two Towers and Return of the King get the same treatment.

Still in 2 halves.
Great film as ever and the HD quality is far better than the DVD edition and the extra footage makes the film so much better. Only problem i have with this Bluray edition is that the film is divided between 2 discs so you have to change it halfway through like the DVD version. Was hoping it would be like the hobbit 3D Bluray edition where the HD version of the extended film (not the 3D version) is on 1 disc.

Great ending to a great trilogy, that was not matched by the Hobbit trilogy, in my opinion.
