Trangia: the benchmark micro spirit burner
This is a good quality item with a couple of features rival models don't have: the variable heat controller, which doubles as a flame snuffer, and the screw-on cap that allows you to leave spirit in the burner. Apparently about 1 in 20 of these burners leak from the main seam when spirit is left in. Mine is OK. You can solder the seam to repair it, if you don't want to return a faulty item. Could be better in the long run, anyway. Runs on meths or bioethanol. Apparently bioethanol can be burned indoors with no flue needed, it doesn't produce carbon monoxide. Bioethanol burns a bit hotter, costs a fraction more in England, is easy to get from B&Q or via Amazon. When using meths, add 5% water to it and this helps prevent any soot. Or just add some of that vile rum someone gave you at Xmas. These burners light up and run at low output for 30 seconds, then they 'bloom' as the unit superheats the air channel in the wall of the device, creating a superheated flame. The burners partner well with the Trangia cooking kits 25, 27, and 28 as you need a pot holder. Also with the Tomshoo wood gasifier mini stove, used as a burner holder / windbreak / pan support. A kit like this is a fine backup on a long-distance voyaging sailboat, in case your cooking propane runs out or there is an electrical problem that hinders electric cooking. The meths or bioethanol fuel are easy and compact to store long term with no problems. These burners are the Swedish army personal cooking solution for use in the field, and work down to -10C with no change; below that you add a widget on the bottom of the burner to pre-heat it. It's probably good to -20C.

Camping Essential You Can Rely On
This little burner is a powerhouse. It lights quickly, burns steadily, and the screwcap means you can carry leftover fuel without worrying about leaks. It’s solid brass, so it’ll probably outlast half the gear I own. Simple, dependable, and exactly what you want when you’re out in the wild.

Iconic burner, tried and tested
There's a reason why this is the ultimate burner; it's tried and tested. Still going strong.

A Timeless Classic
If you don't want to read my waffle- Yes, I wholeheartedly recommend this product =) My main outdoor activities are backpacking & bikepacking. I'm a stove nerd! I just love stoves- gas, multifuel, wood or alcohol- & cooking or brewing up whilst outdoors. How could you not want one of these old skool, classic, brassy beauties? They've been in constant production since 1925 & stood the test of time. Yes, they're not the lightest burner available & they're not the smallest either. If you want a sub 15g burner, you won't be looking here. Those goodies are tucked away elsewhere on the internet. What you get here is a solid, robust burner. You can keep a small amount of fuel in the burner with the screwcap fitted, no more farting around trying to pour excess fuel back into your fuel bottle! The dual purpose simmer ring/ snuffer either puts the flame out or allows you to get all Chef Corso (Outdoor Eats) & knock out some a la carte outdoor nosh to impress your maties. This really is the burner that burns- simple. I've matched my burner up with a Toaks 900 pot, a titanium trivet, & pimped up, folding windshield. Overnight I use a 125ml Nalgene bottle or a Trangia fuel bottle for multi day wanders. So, when you fire up this bad girl, know that you're sparking up a pedigree item of gear & also know that you join a long line of outdoor, rugged, ancestors, that stretches back into the dark mists of time. Happy Trails...

Old design still does the job
There are many spirit stoves on the market but this is the best all round burner. Easy to light the stove quickly gets into running mode and will boil a mug full of water in about 4 minutes. The simmer ring is easy to adjust, which is not the case with slightly cheaper competitors. Once the cooking is done simply snuff out the flame, using the simmer ring to avoid melting the 'O' ring gasket. Allow to cool for a couple of mintes then screw the cap down to preserve any unburnt fuel. The seal is good and the stove can be stowed in a pocket without fear of leaks. Recomended for hikers, bikers and anyone who needs a reliable method of boiling water that is small and light to carry.

Original and the best. I have other alcohol stoves, including obvious knockoffs. I am a bit of a gear nut and like gadgets, so I have picked up a few stoves over time out of curiosity more than need. There are lighter alcohol stoves, which I have a couple, but this one consistently primes quickly and produces a nice usable flame, probably the best overall for cooking or boiling. I think if you are looking for ultralight options you are best going with a gas (butane/propane) stove, which means you should only be using alcohol if you are not too worried about a few extra grams/ounces anyway.
