Great value set.
This is a great value little set. I used them during the renovation of a cast iron log burning stove. Some of the bolts had sheared so I had to drill them out and re-tap the hole to take the next size metric screw. These proved perfect and were surprisingly good quality. The taps had to be tightened into the brace using large pliers or a vice as finger tightening just meant the tap slipped out but that was just commonsense in engineering terms. For about the price of a pint (or a Mars bar if you live in London) these are fantastic value and helped me to finish the renovation.

Good Taps but...
I had to drill and tap eight holes into 5mm mild steel to refit a control panel on my narrowboat. These taps worked well insofar as their cutting ability was concerned. The functionality of the wrench/tool-holder was however another matter, the square on the shank of the tap doesn't fit into a corresponding socket on the tool holder but relies solely upon the holder collet gripping the tap. Firstly I tightened it finger tight and it slipped immediately, next I gripped it in a vice and used a screwdriver through the hole in the handle to really nip it up tight. This was much better but it still slipped whilst cutting the thread. The use of a cutting lubricant (good engineering practice) didn't help I guess but sad to say I wasn't impressed. I've added the taps to my kit but bought a bar-type wrench from Amazon for another seven quid, this grips the square on the taps firmly and I've had no problems since. Sometimes the old ways are the best...

TapSet
For the price these taps are not bad. I used them to re-tap exhaust manifold Stud holes in a cylinder head. The taps themselves performed fine, as good as any more expensive taps I've used before. However the wrench failed because the jaws deformed during use, meaning the tap would slip in the wrench. Luckily I had a tap wrench in my toolbox so used this instead. These are cheap tools so remember to use them carefully, apply a little grease to help with thread cutting, and always only cut for quarter of a turn then reverse to clear swarf. They should last for a few jobs, at least to get you out of trouble.

Life saver for us
Needed just the M10 Tap for one job so wanted to buy a cheap set. However the job was important and couldn't go wrong. The metal we were going through was a heavy, solid piece of lump (it was part of a hydraulic pump for an old chair) - wouldn't describe it as soft metal at all.So just to be sure, we also ordered separately a wrench and an expensive 3 piece M10 tap set for the total of £25.00. But we had our fingers crossed for this set working so we would save £25 rather than lose £31 if this Am-Tech set (£6.00) failed. It worked beautifully. We even had a smaller than required hole (inexperience), and it wouldn't go through even though we put all our force into it. Crucially it did not break, so that demonstrates decent quality. When we drilled the hole to the correct size (8.5mm for M10) it worked perfectly. There were only two holes but the tap still looks as good as new. Some points:1. All taps fit the wrench. I'm not sure of the complaints below. You only need to tighten the head with your hand just as you would with a drill head - use some pliers for extra tightening if required.2. Slip in a longer handle into the grip...it will make the job much easier. We found a long slim screwdriver and it went through the grip perfectly and we had to use less energy.3. Make sure to keep it greased when using it (we used bike oil) and reverse it once in a while to clean it out if necessary.

Largely useless product
I bought this specifically for the sliding tee handle facility of the driver as I needed to re-tap a hole in a restricted location. Sadly, the design of the chuck means that it does not grip the square on the tap. Even with the chuck tightened as much as physically possible, so that all four claws in the jaw are actually touching, it cannot turn the tool (tap) against any sort of resistance.Maybe the taps will be OK if I can find something to turn them with.A total waste of time and after a week waiting, I still can’t do my simple re-tapping job.

Good for the price
Arrived quickly, the taps look OK, the cutting edges are a bit burred over. That's a manufacturing quality thing but at the price is probably to be expected. Hopefully it won't stop them cutting a clean thread.

It does as promised
Bought to thread a hole in a reinforced steel beam. Managed it with a little help from other tools. The handle kept slipping if the threading got stuck, which was a pain as it was something happened a lot. Just a design issue that is easily rectified.

Celui ci me va parfaitement
