The Most Precious Present in the World

Lovely book but....
This is a beautifully illustrated book but how I wish I'd read it before I bought it. It's more suited to younger children for whom the concept of their adoption is very basic. It unfortunately doesn't apply to our LO's life story at all as it refers to his birth mum and dad (sadly details of birth dad are unknown) and whilst I tried to re-word aspects of the story to make it more relevant to him, it didn't work. In fact, my little boy took the book from me, closed it and said "give this away". If your adopted child has birth mum and dad and no awareness of any trauma, then this is a lovely story. Otherwise, tread carefully

How much research actually went into this book?
Didn't like the fact that the author kept going on about children being presents. If you read this to your adopted child they will grow up thinking , if they were such a great present why were they given away? Also they may think they will be given away just like present you can return back to the shop

Very positive
This is a very good book that we read at bedtime mostly my daughter is very young but this provides a positive image of adoption, from. Biological parents perspective and the forever family. My daughter knows she is special and a gift to every parent she has had. It described in a simplistic manner that a child will understand.

So helpful
Our (adopted) daughter found this book very helpful in defining her own identity and how she fits into our family. She often goes back to it and raises the issues it addresses in conversation. Excellent!
