Victron Energy SmartShunt IP65 Battery Monitor (Bluetooth) - Victron Smart Shunt - 6.5V-70V, 500 amp

I am a fan of Victron. The products are well design/made and easy to instal and setup. The shunt provides great information on charge, current used, and battery temp (and I bought the temperature add on) and safety for a reasonable price and takes up a small space. Initially, I did not have battery BMS's that gave me information, so this worked well on providing a state of charge and discharge and power consumed and temperature of the batteries . Now that I have the batteries with BMS's that report their individual charge, discharge and temp, it is not as important but still good. In this new battery scenerio case, the shunt and BMS the BMS did not agree on the state of charge when the the batteries reported they each had 78% capacity and the shunt said 62% but I just needed to recalibrate the shunt when it was at 100% capacity. Also, if you put a AC/DC charger or solar chargers (I have a Victron), it does not seem to recognise the increased voltage... . There are some setup features of the shunt battery setup that I have not researched, so this may be compensated by those values.

I figure that a shunt is a shunt. Assuming it's accurate, one is as good as the next. Why I bought Victron over others was the amount of info available on the app.First the basics: It works well. The Bluetooth connects seemlessly and reliably every time. The info i want is always there and ready to get to.Then the app displays a great graph of any two parameters you might want to see. I can watch how amperage affected %, or see how much current a particular device pulls (by knowing what time I turned out on and off) and plenty of other data streams.This shunt does everything a shunt should do and the app displays the data well.Couldn't ask for more!

Excellent build quality and easy to set up. Also purchased optional temperature sensor. Provides needed information on battery state of charge and very accurate. Setup for lithium battery banks requires some online resources that are provided by manufacturer. Provided quick guide is very minimal.

This is truly plug and play. I am using a Victron mppt and all I had to do was connect it and it appeared immediately in the direct connect app. It read battery automatically (several batteries in parallel) and it knew exactly what it was. It comes with 50% discharge limit, so if you want more you can change it any time. I am just going to leave it as I like that setting anyway. Works right along with the mppt.And "it's a Victron"! Best you can get.

I really like this unit as it provides a lot of useful information.Installation, in my case, was a bit challenging. I have a Class A motor home with 3 wet cell batteries and a coach battery. With 3 batteries, the mounting space was tight. The cord to the coach battery was too short but that is to be expected in most cases.It took some getting used to with the various screens. The range is not that great but good enough. About 30 feet at my home.The first time I went to a RV park with it installed, I was surprised to see how many other SmartShunts showed up when I started the app. Seems everyone has one of these, and I can see why. It takes a lot of the guessing out of how long I can boondock.As a bonus, it told me that one of my holding tank heaters isn't working. The light comes on, but there is NO additional current draw. There is with the other heater. Clearly one is not working. Bonus find.

The instructions for the installation are fine, but aren't entirely correct for one of the settings. I found that for my set up, Dakota Li 12v 100ah, that the default setting on 'Charged Voltage' of 13.2v was too low, and causing the monitor to constantly reset the State of Charge (SOC) and ah consumed back to 0 after 3 minutes of none use, this being between charges. This was because the battery will carry a higher voltage than that at full charge. After a bit of use my volts were still between 13.3 and 13.4. With some research, I found that the battery can read 13.6v at full charge. So, after changing the 'Charged Voltage' setting to 13.6v, my monitor is no longer resetting between charges.
