My new sewing machine didn't include this accessory. I don't use it to sew on a button, but love it to change needles. My hands have gotten stiff with age and it is hard for me to hold a needle in place to tighten it. This works perfectly.

Being a short person, I have hemmed jeans and other pants by machine since I was 11. I’m considerably older and I wish I’d used something like this for all those years. It enables the sewing machine to stitch perfectly as it surmounts the side seams.

This tool has 2 uses:1) the small hole is shaped to hold sewing machine needles and you use the tool to insert the needle into the machine (flat side of needle to the back)2) It's also used to sew buttons onto fabric on a Viking sewing machineI don't know why Viking doesn't include this tool with every machine they make, because it's an essential tool IMHO.I bought for a Viking Jade 20. It's reasonably priced. Arrives in generic plastic zip bag with no instructions, warranty or anything.

Works great to lift presser foot over thick material and to insert the needle.

Who'd think this piece of plastic would change my sewing life? I've been making bags and every time I come to a junction of seams, my machine will sit in one place and if I let it, will put in a rats nest of thread. At which point, the seam ripper becomes my best friend. This tool is a simple solution. At the juncture, lift the presser foot, insert this wonder tool, lower the presser foot and sew. Away I go, no rats nest of thread. Downsides? I do occasionally miss my best friend...OK, not really! ;0)

Some of my sewing machines came with these, but after using them I realized just how helpful they were especially for replacing the needles. That's such a tight area for hands and fingers it was difficult to maneuver. These make it much easier so I got one for each machine that didn't have one.

Great product did a good job for me

It is a must for sewing over bulky seams and also great for just starting a stitch run when the fabric just wants to go into the hole on your sewing machines sewing plate- it helps prevent that.
