Quality item and works just as described
I ordered this housing because it was actually one of the cheapest available. The item is well packaged and the actual circuit board seems well designed and made. The metal housing seems like it will be very robust. It will fit a variety of length M.2 boards and you can secure them with a small riser at the end. My M.2 board fitted perfectly and using the riser and screw ensured it wouldn't come loose during use.You do get spare screws and risers too which is a nice touch. You also get a small screwdriver included in the box so you have everything you need to install your M.2 device. The USB cable is also included. The instructions are clear and concise with enough text and pictures to get you up and running without issues. One small note, my board (which houses the M.2 drive) seems a little loose within the metal housing so you do get a slight rattle when fully installed. This is the same even when the cap is fully screwed into place. It is a left to right movement rather then a length movement. This can be resolved with a bit of paper I expect. The speed seems very good and I have managed to back up the contents of the drive via the USB and even burn a CD straight from the drive at 10x speed with no issues. There is a light on the unit to show you when it is accessible and also when the data is transferring.Fully plug and play on windows 7 and 10 and no drivers were required.I certainly recommend this housing! Good company!

Fast and compact, good vlaue
Bought this to replace an alternative caddy I bought for an M2 Sata drive I had spare. The previous unit was really slow so I returned it (40MB/s!). This caddy gave me the 4-500MB/s I was expecting and it's a solid, well made bit of kit, in a tiny compact package. The cable is chunky, so feels well made but has a mind of it's own :)

small and compact
just what i needed for boositng my macbook air and using u my sata m.2.my only reason for not giving the 5 stars is the connection it would have been good to have a usb-c connection and a lighter, shorter and less bulky cable as it weights more than the actually device and is not very pleasing to the eye.just received my enclosure so i can't comment on durabilty but as long as it works and doest toast my drive all is good.maybe a revison with a usb c cable and some form of space inside the enclosure for cooling would be welcomed for the sata m.2 drives in the future.

A great easy to use drive for cloning Windows
Sabrent's M.2 enclosure is perfect for making use of an old M.2 SATA drive as a fast USB 3.0 drive, but it's also very useful if you are thinking of moving from a hard drive or smaller SSD to a new M.2 card in a laptop or PC.The enclosure looks good in black aluminium and is really easy to assemble. The pack comes with the drive, USB 3.0 lead, screws and riser for the M.2 card and a handy screwdriver, along with basic instructions. To install the M.2 you just need to undo the two screws at the front, slide the inside out, grab the M.2 and the riser and screw to screw it in place on the card, slide the card back in and do the screws up. It took about 6 minutes but only because the screw for the M.2 is incredibly small (as they always are).My reason for buying this drive was to install a 500GB M.2 SATA drive in my ASUS laptop, in place of the current boot drive, a 128GB M.2). I installed this drive, used the Windows Disk Management to format it with one partition, used the free EaseUS Partition Master Free software to clone Windows and the recovery sector, then move the recovery sector around so I could re partition the Windows partition to make it larger. The enclosure works really fast on USB 3.0 but it still manages to work fast enough to be useful on USB 2.0 ports as well, so if you only have USB 2.0 then this can still be used. The only other thing to note is that M.2 drives can get pretty hot in use and this being metal, it can obviously heat up a bit, so worth bearing in mind.

Looks smart, feels solid and durable
I have two of these units - I think they are a great way to go to build a cheap USB SATA based M.2 drive. Definitely a lot cheaper than NVME and I suspect ultimately more reliable due to the simpler tech and no real need for thermal pads.I did have a problem with my second drive however - it operated at USB 2.0 speeds in most USB 3.0 ports - in the end I discovered that it was the supplied cable at fault. One other thing to note - this is very fiddly to put together, especially the tiny screw that holds the drive to the unit was very hard to get right - the supplied screwdriver isn't sufficiently magnetic and my other screwdrivers were too big for the task. Having said that I would buy a third if the need ever arose.

Great M.2 tool!
I used this to do a transfer/clone of a laptop hard drive. Enclosure came with screws, 3.0 USB cable and tool. Hardest part was getting the small end cover off, but with a toothpick and a little nudge, easy as pie.Next was just inserting the new M.2 (this is a SATA drive) chip into the slot and securing with the supplied nut/screw to the board. Slide easily into the enclosure and secure the cover with supplied screws. I will note: I had dual sets of replacement screws in my package.Connected to my laptop and did the necessary discovery of the drive in Windows, used MacriumRelief to do the cloning and in less than an hour had all my data cloned to the new drive. The case did NOT get hot at any time during the process as some have mentioned.Once done it was as easy as removing and swapping the drives and rebooting the computer, settting BIOS correctly and had double the space as before. I have no complaints, and now can use the enclosure for a large USB if needed!
