How to Facilitate Meetings & Workshops Using the LEGO Serious Play Method

A practical book that will have you heading for your box of bricks
From June 2016 onwards, I have been on a learning curve about LEGO® Serious Play®. I completed a LSP facilitators course in October 2106 and since then have been developing my facilitator skills with this innovative and brilliant method. I have been searching for and collecting as much information and material as possible on this subject.I bought this book on the strength of the material that I have seen online from both the main authors regarding LSP. It did not disappoint in any way whatsoever and has given me more to think about in terms of using LSP within the company that i currently work for.The book is well laid out, clear and easy to read with really good images... there are a couple of typos but this doesn't matter. It describes the basics of LSP throughly and is far better than the open source documents you can find online. The authors take time to explain things in a way that doesn't patronise the reader... this is useful as and more importantly provides a practical structure that any facilitator will value.I really valued the section on the mindset of the facilitator as participative and how we should have "Outcomes not meetings". This was a complete bonus and not something I had expected at all. The workshop outlines are excellent and written from the perspective of a facilitator which means they are practical and usable. I will be adapting some of these into my workshops! The case studies and advice from other practitioners make this a "can do" book! Lastly, the access to online resources is really handy too!

Fantastically practical field guide to the Lego Serious Play method - a must read for beginners and practitioners alike
Ever since I came to the realisation that play is a wonderful way to learn about my customers problems and how I and my team might innovate around solutions that work for them, I became really interested in the Lego Serious Play method as a way to drive better innovation outcomes. I have read the only other Lego Serious Play book out there and although it gave me a great grounding in the science of play and the Lego method (the "why"), it taught me nothing on "how" to it. Enter this fantastic book - here we get straight to the "how" of the method. Once we are setup to succeed with the introduction of some critically useful concepts like participatory leadership, facilitation and workshop planning, this books delivers on the promise that made me pick it up, the "how" is delivered in spades with everything you need to get started with introducing this fantastically powerful technique! With workshop plans, links to slide presentations and videos (at the accompanying website) and some great case studies that are stuffed full of tips and insights which will help you on your journey, this book really delivers. Sean and Marco have done a fantastic job of communicating what matters in this space and in my opinion, if you are serious about up-skilling your facilitation technique for meetings, workshops and collaboration, read this book, practice its methods and let it take you on the journey. And who doesn't love Lego :)

Beautiful book
Really well presented book, lots of great photos of workshops. Would have deserved 5 stars if more real-life examples of actual activities had been included.

A much-needed and welcome addition to the literature on Lego Serious Play
An excellent introduction to the Lego Serious Play methodology and how it can be applied within workshop and meeting settings. Having read Kristiansen & Rasmussen's Building a Better Business using the Lego Serious Play Method which focuses more on the theory which underpins LSP methodology, I had many questions about the practicalities of LSP, which led me on a search to find out more and quickly led me to this book. I'm glad it did.Too many books focus on giving you content and then expect you to get on with it, as if knowledge itself is somehow enough, when of course it's always only the start. This book takes a different view. The purpose of this book is that the reader will be in a position to deliver a number of LSP workshops and as such, all content is geared toward this goal which is further enhanced by excellent design - large fonts, engaging use of colour, clear diagrams, clever use of bold text, and a vast number of colour photographs from workshops. The book itself provides a concise overview of what LSP is and its broad applications and sufficient theory without resorting to the sort of academic depth that may turn off many readers, before moving into the practicalities - the main focus of the book. For example, the book details what lego bricks you need, suggested workshop schedules together with facilitator and room set-up notes, lessons from the authors based on their many experiences, and a number of case studies with their respective outcomes and feedback from participants. Part of the book has been crowdsourced with contributions from other accomplished LSP facilitators so there are multiple viewpoints from the field providing additional insight. For those that are familiar with workshop delivery they'll feel right at home and will be empowered to deliver LSP, while those who are new to what may be perceived as an abstract technique will have many questions answered as they delve into its pages. This combination makes Serious Work a much-needed and welcome addition to what is a narrow range of literature on LSP. Highly recommended.
