Q: Have you tried these to look at stars ? Wondering how these would work for astronomical purposes.

I just did a little research online because these binoculars on sale and your question piqued my interest, and I found an article on space.com regarding binocular types and the best model to use for stargazing. Here's the article below, and of course, Amazon being the super great company it is, has this model for less than what space.com was listing it for so guess what? I'm ordering one right now. From the pictures they look pretty darn amazing, like dual mini telescopes. This model however did get good ratings and given it's on sale at such a great price, you can't beat it. Thinking about ordering one of these too! :-) The SkyMaster Giant 15x70 binoculars by Celestron have one of the highest magnifications of all the binoculars that Top Ten Reviews checked out, making these ideal for looking at stars, planets, comets and other distant objects in the night sky. Images appear crisp and clear though these binoculars, but you may need a tripod to keep the view steady with such a high magnification (15x). The binoculars have large, 70-millimeter objective lenses that direct ample light to your eyes when used in a low-light setting. And if you wear glasses, you can rest assured that you don't need to take them off before looking through these binoculars.

I have been very satisfied with the quality of these binoculars and the ease to adjust for distances from 20ft to 100yds. true - you could pay lots more and get a finer resolution but for the price they do the job!

Q: Can you focus one eye separately in the event you have better vision in one eye vs the other?

Yes, right in one of the images supplied, it shows a knurled surface ring on ONE of the eye tubes; BTW, I've yet to see any units that ~don't~ allow for individual fine tuning for 1 eye!
