Bringing the text alive!
These graphic versions of Shakespeare's plays are brilliant at bringing the text alive and making it far less forbidding for the average GCSE English pupil! The original text and the modern English versions share the same images and so can be directly compared, page for page, if pupils are struggling to understand the original. The artwork is uniformly excellent. Additionally, there are also some well written background articles on the globe, the background to Macbeth itself with a 'potted' history of the appropriate period of Scotland. Together, with a full Dramatis Personae, all of this makes for a very fulfilling reading experience for younger readers who have an opportunity to experience the full richness of Shakespeare's English and the contribution he made to the development of our language.

Great Introduction
Great introduction to the play. The illustrations are spectacular and the speech sticks to the original text. When compared to the 'Plain Text' version, the same illustrations are used in the same order only with different text. This is extremely useful when helping people or students compare and translate the original text with modern English. Still a great read and an amazing visualisation of the play when used on it's own.

The next best thing to seeing the play performed...
The unabridged texts in graphic novel form are exceptionally helpful for students struggling with Shakespeare or any classic literature to be honest. The entire text of the play is reproduced in "comic book" form so actions, emotions and motivations become so much clearer. It has worked wonders to calm the fears of some anxious students. I've also used the Wuthering Heights graphic novel which helped everybody know their Cathys from their Catherines! Anyone thinking of using this as a teaching tool or as a revision tool - go for it. I'm a teacher of English literature and language and an A Level examiner for English lit....

Brilliant!
Just wow! This is the first time I've read one of these Shakespeare graphic novels and it was just incredible. The format is perfect for the play and really enhances your enjoyment - with no effort at all you know what is spoken and what is a soliloquy, and the entrances/exits of characters and sound effects are seamless. I've always liked Macbeth, but I don't think it (or any play) was written to be read by everyone, it was written to be learnt and then acted out so people could enjoy it in action. The graphic novel allows you to read it in action. I cannot wait to read more of them.
