My order for a tatami mat and shikibuton from Fuli Japan arrived as promised. Both well packaged. Both very beautiful. I followed the enclosed instructions for preparing them.I have slept on them for over a week now. I would say night 3 was the hardest. I woke up sore. I reckon it must have been my body realigning. I ordered a mattress topper from elsewhere and cotton bedding. Every morning I strip the bed and air the mattress and tatami. It takes all of 2 minutes to do. It is cold and winter in Scotland so I lay it over an airer by a window to circulate. I stand the tatami mat to allow same. The tatami mat has a grassy odour almost like a fermented scent but I quite like it. It does seem to be lessening though. I fold the remaining bedding. The room is sparse so I have space to do this. Before purchasing this futon I trial ran a small foam mattress my daughter keeps for friends visiting. It was to see how I could cope directly sleeping on the floor. It was strange but I adjusted to it very quickly. It does help keeping the room sparse I think.I had previously spent months seeking expensive weekly chiropractic sessions for a sore back and it was in desperation that I researched other ways to help myself. I was uncomfortable in my own bed.Now here I am sleeping on the floor every night and in summary can say this is the best thing I have done for myself. My back pain is all but gone. To be sure the mattress is very firm but I look forward to my sleep every evening and my ritual of preparing my bed in the evening (again, only a few minutes of my time). It feels so clean. I have somehow created a zen haven in choosing to sleep this way. It’s calming and special. It perhaps wouldn’t suit everyone (my work colleagues think it’s odd) but it works for many people. I am 60 years old, so not a youngster but I am able to rise with ease. This is the best change I have made for me.....yet to convince my hubby who currently still sleeps in our bed.

I bought this as a second guest futon that I can use when the need arises. I also have a double fuli mattress which is my main daily sleeping arrangement through choice. Having slept on this single myself also I can vouch for its comfort and certainly once you get used to sleeping on tatami and futon might prefer it to a normal bed. This combo is a good way to see if futon sleeping is for you or certainly as spare sleeping arrangement, either way I recommend

Really good matress. I sleep pretty well and get to sleep extremely quickly most nights. Noticed a improvement on my back, only think I would say is it recently feels like my upper back is off.... which I've never had a problem with before

The platform looks good, is well finished, and is easy enough to put together (I recommend having a power screwdriver with Allen bit on hand, or at least a manual ratcheting screwdriver).I was surprised at how sturdy the assembled platform is. No budge; it's as solid as sitting on the ground. I use the platform for sitting (with tatami and zabuton) as well as for a guest bed (with tatami and shikibuton).Since I have the platform pushed lengthwise against a wall, I added narrow adhesive felt strips to the ends of the slats on that side, to prevent noise and marring.

I wanted to start writing this review by stating that I'm someone who had a rather heavy and large frame in their bedroom. It only began to become a problem as the mattress began to wear out rather quickly after all the years of use that have gone by.I have been getting a little more seriously into virtual reality, but the space my bed frame occupied made it rather difficult to have a decent space to work with. I've heard about futons before, but I wasn't sure if spending 300$C/230$US on something completely new to me was going to be a good idea. With my mattress thrown away and my old frame sold, I finally began to give my set some use.First of all, the price makes for a great way to get into owning a futon. The Tatami Mat is key to keeping your Shikibuton in good condition. If you're alone or a single person, the twin size won't be a problem at all (But you may want to look at other sizes if you do wish to go larger. Do take note that weight will understandably go up, but I doubt that's going to be that much of an issue). If you're someone who came from using regular mattresses and the average frame, you'd be surprised by how comfortable something that looks rather flat is.Since I've made the switch around a month and a half ago, I can safely say that my sleep quality has improved by much more than I ever anticipated. Back issues were gone, neck pain had diminished, amount taken to fall asleep has gone done. It improved across the whole board. One thing that surprised me is that I used to be more of a side sleeper my entire life. Within a week, I had no difficulty adjusting to sleeping on my back, something I couldn't really pull comfortably on my other mattress.Would I recommend this? If you don't want to shell out money for a compact frame that's attached to a bed, yeah I would totally recommend giving this a try. Whether you want the full kit or not (Sometimes the futon itself goes on sale. You could consider that if you wanted to pick another option for a mat), I don't think you'll be disappointed by this. If you value space for use cases like turning your bedroom into a VR room, you can't go wrong with this.

Very happy with this. Note for those in Canada you NEED to hang this at night it will grow mold under it. Hang it up when you are done sleeping to prevent mold from the floor moisture that gathers at night. Wash in the summer and hang outside, you really need to build some kinda hanging contraption so you get it nice and hung out but if you can do that you will feel fresh as fresh can be. 本当に
