Effective - suggest read my and others' tips.
Easy to manage, bait, place and monitor. First kill on night one, so I'm impressed!I was going to knock off a star for having two sets of incompatible and slightly ambiguous instructions (one inside, one printed on outside of box), but frankly, you just need to put on some new latex gloves (do not touch the outside of the latex gloves while putting them on), THEN open the cardboard box, bait with peanut butter, as per instructions inside box, place as instructed against a wall. When you have a "customer", put on new latex gloves, collect dead thing using an inside out plastic bag with no holes in it (many bags have safety holes to reduce risk of child suffocation), tie a secure knot to prevent anything nasty getting in or out of the rat's coffin bag, and dispose. Be sure not to crush or perforate the coffin bag with other rubbish.I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with such dead things, but I use household trash.Check bait, or carefully replenish, reset and place trap.NEVER TOUCH THE TRAP with bare skin - rats will avoid it like ... the plague (there's a poor taste joke in there somewhere).UPDATE; caught rat #2 this morning. This was a BIG rat - his body did not fit the aperture. The trap fractured his skull but didn't kill him so he was reversing around the garden with a trap on his head. Humane kill. Knocked a star off at the request of the agonised rat.

Hit and miss
The trap is easy to set up and protects family pets / children from setting it off accidentally. Has worked on occasion but have also found pests in the garden to actively avoid the trap.

Rats dead
I never leave reviews but felt I should. Anyone with rat issue this is the way. Excellent 👌, mature Pilgrims choice as bait, within 24 hours rat dealt with. No mess so easy and works!

Good and robust but sadly no rats caught
The item looks good and robust but the peanut butter I'm using just isn't attracting the rat. Disappointing as we've tried repositioning the trap where we've seen its route. We've used gloves to avoid touching the trap but, no success to date. I'm more worried about trapping a curious squirrel so it's now been consigned to the garden shed for the time being.

Sound design, but let down by small entry holes; so more for large mice than feral rats.
We bought a couple of these traps for use outside where a rat had been attracted by spilt seed from a bird feeder. The design seems good, with an easy-to-set mechanism, that looks sturdy enough to dispatch a rat very easily, and can be reset by pressing down on a small exterior pedal. The trouble is that the entry holes at either side of the trap are too small for the rat in question, which would be hard-pressed to get even its head, much less its body, in far enough to trip the mechanism. Large mice or other rodents would fit in ok, but not feral rats. There's no scope for making the holes wider so, unless I can use the mechanism to fit in a larger tunnel, that's £30 down the tubes...
