Love this learning method, simple and effective! - This book, along with the Paul Noble audio courses are fantastic! I've tried to learn French so many times over the years and have never managed to remember anything. I've also struggled with pronunciation, and trying to understand all the grammar rules. This method uses building blocks to eventually build up to useful sentences, not only teaching you sentence structure, but also very useful vocabulary...things you'll actually use. I have the complete audio course, which I can't praise highly enough! This book is a fantastic addition to my Paul Noble collection. It can be used alone, or can be used with the audio course so you have an opportunity to learn to recognise written French as well as spoken. I highly recommend this book (and the complete audio course) to anyone who has previously struggled, as I find this method is perfect for learning to say useful things very quickly! After only a few days I was able to say more than I've ever been able to before over 35 years of trying to learn. It helps you to form your own sentences, allowing you have conversations...or even just order food, book a room, or make general statements to people about how you feel, or what you'd like to do, or have been doing...confidently, knowing that you understand how the sentence is put together, and what all the words mean, rather than just learning a phrase without really understanding the meaning of the individual words. Paul Noble's method of learning is the best I've used so far, and I'm looking forward to learning even more. Review: EASY, EFFECTIVE, EXCELLENT, You will learn French! - Loved this book! It's revolutionized language learning for me. After a couple of weeks I'm able to speak a lot of French. This method is amazing as you don't have to do grammar, the method works if you follow what Paul says which is it not to memorize anything. I have a pile of boring French books and this book is the opposite of those in that it's fun, quick, accessible and not unintimidating! Paul's tone is light amusing too. I'm 59 years old so if I can do it anyone can! It's simply BRILLIANT. Thanks Paul .

Easy to understand and apply
I was impressed with his book on German and I thought I would give this one a try. Although I have found the German book better, that may be because I prefer that to French. However, I still found this book easy to understand and apply. It is certainly well worth the money and a good first step in learning how to improve your French in a fun and engaging way.

If you want to learn French start with this book
I don’t write many reviews but I had to for this book. It is simply fantastic! As a beginner, I am picking up French so quickly. The author guides you to see how easy it is to string sentences together with the addition of the helpful corresponding pronunciation guides, you can see it and you can say it. It’s like having a teacher in the room. I really love the authors teaching style. He gives great advice at the end of each chapter too. If you are thinking of buying this book, do it.

It’s so good that you’ll read it in one week maximum
I don't usually write reviews of the products I buy, but this time I went straight to Amazon to find out where I could write my review. Short story, I have had the book for two days and I have to control myself not to go on. The author is brilliant, he takes away the fear that learning French is very difficult and just a few succeed, it's written in such a way that you don't need to memorize, write or do extra work besides reading the book. On the other hand, it doesn't just teach you French, it also teaches you tips on the best method to learn languages effectively and without getting bored. I will buy it for my sister, my brother-in-law and a friend. 100% recommended.

Does what is says on the spine.
I have tried other teach-yourself French books, notably “French, Learn the Easy Way” which proved anything but easy. I have only just started on “Unlocking French” so it is too early to say how it will progress, but my experience so far is that Paul Noble’s book has taught me more in one chapter than all the other books put together. It’s approach, IMHO, is refreshingly free of the kind of word and memory fatigue most often associated with these books. Indeed he says frequently not to try committing to memory as the way the lessons are constructed will do that automatically through usage. This also allows me to look forward to opening the book as I am not continually being chastened by lack of success with gender placing and memory tests. Do we really need to know that a velo is masculine and a bicyclette is feminine when they are one and the same and we don’t yet even know how to ride them?

Liking this French learning approach a lot!
Am 4 chapters in and enjoying this new (for me) language learning approach. It’s fast, enjoyable and it is working! I already know some French so maybe that is helping but I think it would still work well if you knew little or no French. Definitely worth a go if you find remembering how to string a French sentence together difficult. As I do. I wanted to try something different but that still had structure and a consistent approach and this fits the bill. Would recommend if you want to try a fresh approach.

Hmmm
Although I followed the entire course both audio and this book, I had mixed feelings at the end. I like the teaching method and definitely took in a lot of it but the sort of sentences you learn are simply not relevant to a holiday in France. Really you need to learn mostly in the first person singular or third person plural. Who cares whether you’ve made the coffee or are scared of flying. I just want to make myself understood in restaurants, at the airport and bus station. Sadly, I can’t recommend,
