This device is soothing and lovely - we had it running in our living room as a side table. Lights are a bit bright at night, but otherwise it's a great point for meditation and conversation piece, and the designs have great variety. Until, that is, the fabric under the sand started to bubble and lift, less than 6 months after opening. Within warranty, the seller will not exchange or refund, and Homedics Australia doesn't exist - it's an unmanned phone number and email address with no responses. Working through the credit card company now...

This is hands-down, one of the best sensory things I’ve ever bought from my family. Everybody sits and stares at it for hours. At first I was a little disappointed in how slow the ball moved as it takes quite a bit of time to make a picture, but I find it calming and the kids find it quite calming as well so I don’t mind that it keeps them calm for that long while they sit there to try and watch I love that you can download several of the pictures and each one of them take turns picking out what they want to make even if one loses patience and takes off they always come back to check to see what the table drew for them, which I think is awesome and with one little one having autism, he sits there and watches it I think it’s good for him to have his own little spot so he can have some peace it brings any room that little bit of extra. I actually bought the white bowl and mixed and matched with a dark wood stand, and I think it looks amazing. The only downside would be when ordering the big one like I did. It would be better if the stand was included, it is a bit pricey for the stand.

This was an impulse buy for sure, it was the first thing that came up when I searched for “Perpetual Motion Device.” Best impulse buy ever! The simplest way to describe this product is a zen garden that does all the work for you. The marble moves on its own, almost like magic, drawing patterns all throughout the sand. It functions perfectly, moving almost effortlessly as it rolls along. There are hundreds of patterns to choose from! Depending on which pattern you choose, it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours for the marble to draw it at max speed. More complex patterns take longer to draw. There is no work to be done, the marble does everything for you. All you have to do is set it up, and it does the rest! You don’t even have to worry about cleaning the canvas before starting a new pattern, it does that too! Initial setup is easy. You open the bag(s) of sand and pour them right in the center of the felt. You then use the included rake to spread the sand around the canvas. Once you do that, you place the marble in the center and then download the HoMedics drift companion app. The app will walk you through setting up the product, and will perform an initial “cleaning” session, in which the marble moves in a spiral pattern, spreading the sand out evenly and “clearing” the canvas to prepare it for your first pattern. The app will start in “Demo” mode, running the preset Demo playlist. You can stop this playlist and choose your own patterns, or just let it run. You can also create your own playlists containing your favorite patterns! You can change the color of the ambient lighting in the app, and it is fully customizable. You can even set it to color cycle or breathing if you’d like. When a drawing is in progress, there is an indicator that shows how complete the pattern is, indicated by a percentage. Pretty nifty feature. I could and have watched this thing run for hours. It is unbelievably entrancing and relaxing, and it’s a great way to take your mind off things and just zone out. There is a bit of a grinding sound from the marble rolling along, as shown in the provided video, but it’s not annoying at all. In fact, it actually enhances the experience. All in all, I would very highly recommend buying this product! If you’re on the fence, just get it now, you won’t be disappointed in the slightest!

I purchased the 21 inch drift kinetic sand table after deciding not to purchase the $3500 coffee table made by a different company. I wanted to see if it was something that helped me relax. Considering the price of this versus the super expensive coffee table Table version by a different company, it’s amazing. Watching the ball create the patterns and move around the table is so soothing and relaxing to my brain. I can put on some headphones put on some good music and watch this thing for hours. The app works flawlessly and the massive amount of design options is great. The only thing I wish I could do would be import my own designs. I really hope at some point they add that ability to the app. But there are so many preset designs I haven’t even gone through a third of them yet. If you’re considering purchasing an end table then I would recommend getting the stand and the table. Every single person that has come over to my house has wanted to watch it. It is a great conversation starter and a really cool thing to have in my home. I am very happy with the purchase and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I took it out of the box and had it making its first design in less than two minutes. All of the different lighting color options etc. and the app make it even better.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Very nice coffee table especially in our beach themed home. Why not a 5?: 1) I was surprised you can't make your own designs. You have to pick from their pre-defined patterns. I was hoping to do custom designs like "Happy B-Day Honey <3" but you can't. 2) The stand includes "coord management stickies" that don't stick. The cord ends up looking sloppy unless you find something after-market. 3) It may just be me but I hate when a product includes "unnecessary waste". This comes with 3 international plug types that don't need to be included. I felt guilty throwing them out so now they in my junk drawer. They should just have a US SKU for US Plug etc. so less waste.
