Great quality and a lot easier to work with than I'd expected
I recently want to increase my desk space in my home office now that I'm permanantly based from home. I found some old chipboard, some new desk legs, and broke out the power tools. Obviously, I wanted a better finish than chipboard though. My wife, crafter that she is, suggested I look out for some sticky backed vinyl to cover the chipboard. I found exactly what I was looking for within a few seconds on Amazon and, amazingly, found what looked to be a very close colour match to my existing desk.On its arrival, I was extremely pleased to find the colour match was uncanny. A note about the packaging at this point...I orderd two rolls and they came in a box each, which is fine, however each box could have contained perhaps nine rolls each! Maybe an opportunity to cut down on packaging there. To be honest, I was dreading sticking the vinyl to the chipboard. I was anticipating getting into a right mess. But, as it turned out, the application was really drama free. I used a semi-rigid decorating tool for smoothing wallpaper most of the time, but I did also use a paperback book for a few pieces. I managed to apply several peices, and one of them a large open expanse of desk, with no air bubbles at all. The vinyl is thick enough that it doesn't tear, but thin enough to be able to fold around edges without it bulging.I've been left with a very nicely finished desk that I'm very pleased with. I really didn't think the finished product would look as good as it did, so I'm very happy. I would add that you do need to be consious that it is a just a relatively thin adhesive sheet, and not likely to be as hard wearing as a laminated sheet you'd get on a desk top usually, so it won't stand up to knocks as well. I've caught an edge already, but i've got enough left over to effect a repair. On the whole though, I'm really impressed with the product.

Old to new
Fablon is far better to use now than it was many years ago !! ...it can be re-positioned , but I found that for best results you are better measuring as near as possible the area you are intending covering as this makes handing the fablon much easier as you have less extra to try to maneuver .

Total new look
This product is amazing, it is relatively easy for beginners too, this was my first attempt at anything like this, I did get a little help from a very reluctant husband and I also found a new use for my hairdryer, but all in all it wasn’t too hard. And I love the finished look, my counter tops were dark grey before.

Looks Good, But Won't Take Knocks
This may look like real veneer (and it does), but the difference is that this is soft plastic that is easily damaged by a knock with something hard, especially by a glancing blow that will tend to rip the surface off. I found this out when replacing a drawer which caught the edge of the unit , taking a lump out of it. It was only a small hole which I patched with a spare bit, but it was enough to show it won't take knocks. I thought of giving it only 3 stars for this weakness, but it is not difficult or expensive to replace a damaged piece.Another point to note is that small defects like lumps, hollows and bits of dirt in the surface to be covered will show up when the light is at an accute angle, so it's best to get the surface as smooth as possible, though it depends on where the furniture is sited.I didn't have enough for the last drawer front, so rather than buy another roll I used two spare bits with matching pattern and overlapped them. I then used a ruler and sharp craft knife to cut through the overlap, which is then peeled back to remove unwanted bits. If the cut is clean and the two halves carefully re-laid, the join is hardly noticable. It's worth a try anyway. If all fails you can always buy more. It made a tatty old drawer unit in the kitchen look as good as the new units.

Easy to use and it transformed our kitchen
We were delighted when we received this product way ahead of schedule and the colour and finish were better than expected. We wanted to cover our kitchen countertop in as easy and affordable way that would still make our kitchen looks nice and this actually surpassed our expectations. The contact is flexible and very forgiving on reapplying but every single bit of dust will stick to it, so make sure to have a squeaky clean surface. We used an old plastic card to smooth bubbles out and worked on a “middle to edges” approach which worked really well with our wonky walls. We made a couple of patches around tricky areas like the sink and stove but the pattern allowed for a seamless match. We love it.
