What a Beautiful Piece of Engineering
I've owned a few watches in my time but never took the plunge to purchase anything in the >£100 price range. Seen this piece and thought it looked great. Low and behold Seiko 5s actually have a great reputation as being one of the best entry level watches for new watch enthusiasts (which I am now one). As I have small wrists I needed to have links removed which was an issue because removing one more link would have been too tight. Luckily the Seiko 5 comes with 3 levels of microadjustment on the clasp which allowed for an extra level of tightening and gave the fit you can see in the picture. The watch comes in a bright white box wrapped around a black cushion. Also included was the warranty card which I doubt I'll need as I can already tell this watch is built to last. Very minimal approach to packaging which I feel matches the price. All in all the watch is very nice to look at and is perfect for everyday wear. If the metal bracelet is too much you can always switch it out to a dark blue or black strap(not included) for a more casual or formal aesthetic. Can't wait to buy another Seiko :)

Fantastic!
This is a fantastic watch that's rocking the bulletproof 7s26 movement that seiko has been using in its mechanicals since the 90s. I've not had it for very long, but from what I have measured, it loses about 7 seconds a day unregulated, which is pretty damn close to the COSC standard you find in higher end Swiss watches like Rolex and Omega. It can be regulated to be even more accurate. There is no hacking or hand winding, but this is to be expected at this price point and is not a deal breaker for me. The dial is a beautiful Prussian blue that looks even better in certain lights than in the photos. I've read reviews that this calibre movement can go a good 15-20 years without a service (although I do not recommend this), a testament to the quality and reliability of Japanese and seiko watches. If you have any reservations on purchasing this, put them to the side and go for it

Seiko watches under warranty, returned to Seiko take 4 weeks before they are warranty tested.
I bought a Seiko watch from Amazon in June. After a few weeks it kept stopping, I thought it was something I had wrong so I persevered with it and then it started working okay. In November it stopped working so I returned it to the service depot in Maidenhead under warranty. After a couple of weeks I contacted Seiko to get an update and was told that it was waiting to be warranty checked. I queried this and was told that it took 4 weeks from them receiving the watch before they would access it. God when I am going to get the watch returned to me. What is happening to this country? There is no customer service. When I suggested that they should employ more staff I was told it was because they had so many watches to be repaired. When I suggested perhaps the quality of their had gone down the lady was a little put out. My watch was returned to me by Seiko on the 16th December 2023. The letter accompanying the watch stated that it had been thoroughly examined by their Technical Manager, it was within their specification and he "suspects" that I am not wearing sufficiently to keep it charged. He recommended wearing the watch daily whilst being reasonably active. Well, when I received the watch back from Seiko it had already stopped and it still occasionally stops even though I wear it for at least 15 hours every day on my left arm, although I am 76 years old I feel that I am "reasonably active". Perhaps in the product details for this watch it should have stated that it's use was recommended for somebody who is reasonably active i.e. a marathon runner or a left handed author! Or perhaps it should have a recommendation that it is only worn on your dominant arm.

A nice watch, unfortunately, this one was unreliable.
Excellent service from the supplier. This particular watch, after allowing the appropriate time to build up self-winding reserve, stopped twice, which was unacceptable. I am an active person, wearing the watch for at least 13 hours a day. The supplier behaved very honourably and, on receipt of the returned watch, made a full refund.

The best value mechanical watch is a Seiko 5
What a great watch. I now have three Seiko 5’s this one is by far my favourite. It’s got a great case shape with dauphine hands. The dark blue sun ray face has a hint of purple in bright sunlight and indoors it looks black. A lot of collectors knock the 7s26 movement in this watch because you have no wind or hack function. The plus side is it’s a solid simple movement in this watch, and this particular one has a deviation of +2 seconds a day, what more can you ask for, buy it.

An elegant watch for the smaller wrist.
Smart looking, seemingly very well made. The dark blue dial is elegant, and the watch is quite slim for an automatic. Removal of one link was easy following directions from Youtube.

I've only owned this watch for a day now, but as first impressions go, I'm quite pleased with it's performance. Disregard other people giving poor reviews for some of Seiko's other automatics, because most of the problems with accuracy come from a small design flaw in the 7s26 movement, causing the hairspring to be "caught" in the regulator pin due to shock. This results in horrible accuracy, on the range of +-20seconds per hour or more. But a quick fix (though it's not recommended that to try to bump your watch around) is to tap the watch to get the hairspring free again. Overall, it is a rare occurrence that that happens, and comes with a quick fix. My watch arrived with no hairspring-getting-caught issue, so it ran quite steadily and only gained about +1 sec/hour. Since it seemed a little too fast, and I wanted it to get at least in the sweet spot of around +-15sec/day, I opened the back to regulate the hairspring. WORD OF CAUTION: the regulator lever is VERY sensitive. Moving the lever just 1/2mm to the plus sign changed the accuracy to about +10sec/day, so be very precise about the adjustments. Overall, this watch has not disappointed, considering that it's only a ~$70 watch. Seiko's price to performance ratio is always great, and each watch is crafted with precision detail. Currently, my watch is running about +12sec/day after regulating. I might change the rating if something goes awry, but for now, I recommend with watch.
