Atlas Obscura Explorer's Journal: Let Your Curiosity Be Your Compass

Pretty neat gift
I got this as a gift for a good friend’s birthday. She travels a ton for work and for pleasure so I thought it was the perfect companion. I like that the cover is soft as I personally found that hard covers are not as good for on the go notes, jotting things down on your lap is easier with a soft cover for bending.Mailed it out days ago so we’ll see what my friend thinks, but I thought it was a neat idea. There are fewer pages to write, that is true, and for that I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

Somewhat low quality
Nice journal, but the one I received looked like it had already been through the mill, which leads me to believe it would quickly wear if I carried it around, as I had intended. The cover is pretty much just poster board material, and the paper doesn't seem to be great quality. All said and done - kind of neat, but would not buy again.

Overpriced Journal That Wastes Writing Space
I am very disappointed in this "explorer's journal'.It is a very basic softcover journal, with different styles of blank pages in the beginning of the journal - page styles include lined, graphed, hexed, and dotted.Note that the description here lists this journal as 176 pages .... be aware, though, 58+ pages of that total are taken up with "guides" and other "useful information" ... The "guides" and "useful" information on these pages is available for free at the Atlas Obscura website, and on other websites.( Speaking of which, the Atlas Obscura website is excellent!! I love it and use it frequently. I even have the Atlas Obscura hardcover book - Atlas Obscura: An Explorer's Guide to the World's Hidden Wonders which features travel destinations )Basically, this "journal" is banking on the Atlas Obscura name. You can get the guides and other information for free, I don't understand the point of taking up journal writing space. If you want a travel journal, buy a blank journal and fill it with your thoughts. Simple. Easy. This journal is simply a branded over-priced item. Disappointing.FYI the included "mini" City Guides:Berlin, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Cairo, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Moscow, NYC, Paris, Shanghai, and Tokyo

Good journal
Bought it on the hopes that it was a journal like the book.It is a journal, but only the back 25% is the City Guides.

Three Stars
Page layout is pretty basic and nothing special. Get a regular journal and save money.

Nice little book!
Good quality; lots of cool little additions in the index of the book (maps, conversion tables, etc...). Atlas Obscura usually puts out good books/articles and this is no exception
