Better than expected.
I was looking for a knife that was strong and well made for several tasks I had to work on so I took a chance and ordered this knife. Upon arrival I was shocked and saw that it was much better than I expected. It was smaller than my Bowie but still large and strong. It has a great feel to it, and is very sharp which is an added plus. The knife case is well made and the knife fits perfect in it and seems to hold it well. I am very happy with knife and the cost was reasonable for a change, which allowed to take a chance, with positive results. All in All this seems to be a great knife that will last be the rest of my life. Good Luck, I hope this helps .

Awesome knife
Beefy! Sweet knife. I handled the ZT0006 which is nice. But not as thick as this knife. Also cost a lot more. This is a durable knife and you can even go bigger with the trailmaster.

Amazing Knife, Incredible Value!
This is my second purchase of this knife, and I can't say enough good about it. It's a fantastic piece, and is a great value for the dollar. If I could only have one fixed blade knife, it would be a toss up between this and a USMC KaBar. Because I am not limited by this thought, I have both. First, the craftsmanship that went into the Recon Scout is amazing. The geometry is uniform, clean and distinct. CPM3V steel is a premium grade metal that makes an incredibly durable knife. It's razor sharp right out of the box and is rock solid. It's a relatively heavy knife, because of the 5/16" steel and full tang, all outstanding virtues. The handle is very user friendly, creating a grip that is secure and steadfast. It's not going to slip out of your hands. The 7 1/2" blade is long enough for the larger tasks but not so long that it becomes unwieldy. Unlike hundreds of knives on the market that are nothing more that sharpened pry bars, which I avoid like the plague, this knife can take a pounding and still be practical and functional. The Kydex portion of the sheath is very nice, holding the knife with the utmost security. What I do not like about the sheath is the nylon strap that connects the sheath to one's belt. If you are wearing the sheath, you cannot draw the knife without the sheath riding up. Being flexible, it's not stable . If the entire sheath were Kydex, it would be a functional accessory. What I use, and recommend, is the Spec Ops brand nylon sheath. It's extremely well made here in the States, and is as durable as it gets. The sheath that comes with the knife is okay for most general purpose tasks, but for serious needs, the Spec Ops sheath is the way to go.Real professionals know that knives are designed to cut material softer than the steel from which they are made. They are not designed to be used as pry bars, hammers; screwdrivers, or axes. In the event of a contingency, however, the Recon Scout can handle all these tasks. It's built like a tank while remaining practical. Knowing that different tasks require different tools, when I hit the field, I have a Recon Scout on my backpack, a USMC Kabar on my side, a Leatherman tool and a small hand axe inside the pack. These will pretty much handle anything most of us would encounter. The first rule of survival is always be prepared. The Recon Scout is made in Taiwan, but do not be fooled by thinking that it can't be a high quality piece. Taiwan is not China. China is communist and Taiwan is not. Additionally, The Cold Steel knives that I have seen coming out of Taiwan are every bit as nice (if not better) than those from Japan and the United States. The tremendous quality of the Recon Scout cannot be questioned. It is first rate all the way. It's every bit as nice as my $600 US Made Randall, with a cost that's 66% less. This is one of the best values I have seen in a knife in a very long time.If you are looking for a knife of this size, look no further. This gal is a real gem in every sense of the word.Be safe out there, and God Bless our troops!

LOVE COLD STEEL!!!
This is the little brother to the trail master (9"). This has a 7" blade which could be more manageable for most. Don't misunderstand. 7" is plenty of steel to work with, and often times is the "sweet spot" for knife length (think kitchen knives). But you should take note that this knife is thick! Blade thickness is suitable for certain tasks, but also not so suitable for others. Such as kitchen related tasks. Processing wood and outdoors tasks? Wonderful! Cutting fruit? A bit less handy. It can do it. Just not like a kitchen knife. Still absolutely love this knife! Cpm3v is an incredible steel. Especially in this size, it's nearly indestructible. I'm still trying to break my carbon V model trail master from over 20 years ago, and that beast isn't going anywhere. Try this challenge. Promise yourself that you won't buy another knife until this one gives up the ghost. Use it as you would normally use a knife. Don't actively try to break it. Just use it. Well made knife.
This is a very well made combat/survival knife. I would much rather have this knife in a combat situation than that "Marine Knife" so many swear by. I own both and the build quality on the Recon Scout is way better in my opinion. It is hefty and solidly built. The two complaints I have about this knife is that the guard is NOT stainless steel (my magnet CLINGS to it) and therfore probably more prone to corrosion, and the blade cutting edge is only 7.0 inches, not 7.5 inches as cold steel states. The last half inch of the blade is all ricasso, with no sharp edge. This is in contrast to other knives I have purchased here that say their blade length is 7.5 inches and the cutting edge, without ricasso, does measure 7.5 inches. I feel this is a deceptive practice on the part of cold steel. Just my opinion.

Pretty Perfect
I bought two of these for presents. I liked them so much, I bought one for myself. I like the finger guards that Cold Steel puts on it's knives as it makes the knife feel a bit more secure in my hand when actually using it vs. just admiring it. :-) The knife feels balanced in the hand and the grip is fine for my medium-sized female hand. The blades on all of the knives I purchased were nice and straight and very sharp. The blade size is perfect for many uses as it is not too long and not too short. The male recipients of the gifted knives were very happy with the knives as well. Definitely recommend.

cold steel recon bowie
Been wanting one of these bad boys for a long time , totally worth the wait ! this is a very good knife , fit and finish are perfect, quality feel in hand , thick spine in 3v , sharp out of the box . Buy a new sheath as the one that comes with the knife will scratch your beautiful blade up & does not retain the knife well with the snap being the only thing holding the knife in the factory sheath . this is a good size knife you will carry unlike the trailmaster
