3 episodes = 1 three-part story that concludes "Endeavour" in a satisfying way.
If you enjoyed Seasons 1 to 8 of "Endeavour" (the prequel to "Inspector Morse"), Season 9 is the unequivocal series conclusion and so it's a must-buy, and fortunately the story-writing and realisation are very good. Recommended. There are 3 episodes: Prelude. Uniform. Exeunt.Shaun Evans is excellent as Endeavour Morse as a young man. The ensemble cast are also excellent: the Thursday family, Strange; one or two surprise re-appearances. Shout-out for Chief Superintendent Bright (played by Anton Lesser). High-calibre guest cast including known names Nicholas Farrell, Jane Lapotaire, Richard Hope, Danny Webb, Phil Daniels. The production crew does a superb job of depicting the years 1965 to 1972 (causing me much nostalgia). The writers are credited as "Colin Dexter & Russell Lewis" (is Dexter's credit for the whole series and inspiration?) and aren't afraid to talk about aspects of life then that are still relevant today e.g. certain extreme and overt prejudices. This is a 'police procedural' that's closely involved in the lives of the detective officers. When "Endeavour" began Shaun Evans looked extremely like John Thaw - see photos - and as regards character, complete with flaws, suffering, grief, irritability, compassion and likeability, Evans has nailed it.Fans should rejoice there's a Season 9 at all, as "Endeavour" Seasons 1 to 8 comprised 33 episodes, because "Inspector Morse" was 33 episodes. The latter's sequel or spin-off "Lewis" also has 33 episodes, so we fans had resigned ourselves to "Endeavour" ending with Season 8. There are only 3 episodes in Season 9 so technically this DVD isn't good value at £14.99, but the true value is that those 3 episodes, which form one major story arc and several shorter/smaller ones, combine to give "Endeavour" the best, and most poignant, send-off as well as cleverly leading closely/directly into "Inspector Morse". So many good scenes, some of the best consist of just two characters talking, and there's a certain one-on-one talking scene in the pub near the end that'll absolutely have you gripped. There's so much for fans here. All the threads are tied up (some shows forget to do that or strive to keep the door open for a pot-boiler). The writers address the "elephant in the room", namely why throughout "Inspector Morse" Morse never once mentions DI Fred Thursday. (Actor Roger Allam appears in an "Inspector Morse" episode, but as a different [and younger] character.)

as good as the best
This is of course the farewell series, and the story-lines are much better than some in recent series. Morse is back from rehab. and gets back into things with a will, whilst the writers work hard to close off all the open issues - the Chief Super retires, the Chief Inspector's daughter marries a surprise beau (so that we can know how that love interest died out for Morse), and the Super is promoted and leaves Oxford at the end of the series. The internal strife with 'division' is resurrected, around the previous children's home story and although it may be argued that this is unoriginal, it is handled quite adroitly. Good quality cops and robbers entertainment - and they had the good sense to end the franchise at the right time.

I cried at the end
I loved nearly every Endeavour in the 9 series. Just a couple I did not enjoy, the one with Ludo I loathed & the one with the chap who claimed to be able to solve various murder, I did not enjoy. The final pert, after Endeavour fired the gun was without a picture. We had the wonderful voice of Anton Lesser bringing the series to an end but no picture & I wanted to see their faces

Disappointing finale
Loved Endeavour and reluctant to see the finale which was a shade disappointing in terms of plot. The fewer but longer episodes left me wanting more

Love the British versions!
The final season # 9 was perfectly satisfying... loose endsfrom other stories were revisited...and neatly resolved.A beautiful piece of writing by Russell Lewis through and through.Very sad to see this wonderfully written, beautifully acted, intelligentand thought provoking series end. Having purchased the British versions Resion 2seasons 1 through 9, I was glad to have seen the subtle variations/scenesmissing from televised version Region 1.Zed

Alas! The End of the Series
We have SO enjoyed the Morse - Lewis - Endeavour detective series over the years!!! We found this last season to be a perfect ending. The episodes were fast-paced, multi-layered, emotional at times, funny at others. CHEERS!! We have a multi-region DVD player, so the itv video is clear with great subtitles — and no forced preview watching at the beginning of each DVD.

Just beatiful
Love the music and in opposition to afore made comments, I don't see a problem with the script. Heart wrenching to see Joan getting married to Jim Strange and the terror that Sam is in. Best play: Morse in such pain over Joan and the obvious connection between Fred and Endeavour. Don't need the biker gang:)) but loved the handyman!!! Couldn't be more up to date. In total, Endeavour is the best series I have ever watched and the only one I bought in full. Thank you to this beautiful cast, to Colin Dexter, Barrington Pheloung and everyone that contributed, most of all (of course) Shaun and Roger. Thank you!
