"Potjie" for two: South-African soul food with a twist

Not so bad
Very slim book... was expecting it to be a lot thicker with more recipes in... I bought this as a gift so couldn't return and replace with something else at the time... the recipes themselves aren't bad though, I had a brief look through before wrapping it. There aren't many potjie recipe books for sale, so if you're looking for one this isn't a bad choice :)

I bought this for a South African friend who loves to make potjies. He really found the book to be great with loads of different ideas and has used them to create yet more potjies. Simple and easy to use. Recommended.

An odd purchase
I have been curious about this form of cooking for a while so this book seem destined for me. On the plus side it has a number of interesting ideas for potjie dishes, it is also written in a fun and often engaging manner. On the down side the editing is either awful or non-existent and the book is so thin it's closer to a pamphlet. The recipes are split into three sections, as it's a potjie cook book the starters and puds which don't require a potjie seem seriously redundant. More a bit of padding than a necessary addition I thought. The editing, or lack of... here's where my gripe really lies. Most, if not all, of the recipes seem to have been cut and pasted from other digital sources - this includes a couple of instances where the "author" forgot to delete the links to other pages. The title is Potjie for two, so why are all the recipes clearly labelled as single servings, including a single size potjie pot. This anomaly is also phenomenally badly edited as it includes one recipe that like all the others is described as "for one" and has an ingredient list that includes over 5lb of fruit and vegetables on top of the 12 lamb shanks. Mr Beukes does warn in his intro that the quantities in the recipes are for a fat man that enjoys his food, but seriously!?!So, an overall odd purchase. Seriously over priced for what it is, a badly put together and very short collection of potjie recipes, but it has a good degree of humour in the writing and there is very little else out there on this subject. Not sure I could recommend you spend your cash on this, but I will put some of the recipe ideas to use.
