Perfect Prep for LMSW Exam
A well laid-out table of contents is invaluable - the LMSW Exam Prep has a great one. In addition to the 5 'Secret Keys' at the beginning, the test-taking strategies and five-week study plan were especially helpful. As a previously licensed MSW of 30+ years, I have forgotten a few things. This book was a great way to revisit valuable social work theories and practices. I was especially pleased to find sections on ethics, review of the use of ‘self’ and the three levels of practice. I found each section to be clear, the definitions written in professional yet easy to digest (and remember) language. The book captures current social norms/conventions, trends and best practices.Other stand-out features:Use of bulletsVideo links accompanied most of the sectionsTest-taking strategiesWeekly breakdown for study guidesCharts were easy to read and refer back toReference to the DSM-5-TR Classifications (my bible!)Emphasis on communicationChapter quizzes layout parallels the study guides (this makes it extremely easy to check your answers)The option to practice exams in an interactive (online) formatAnswer keys are extremely detailedThe content, clarity and depth of this book has the feel of an actual classroom textbook. Many times I had to remind myself that I was not reading for my own learning and pleasure. It reminded me of the social work values that resonated with me all those years ago as a student and practitioner. This book of 340 pages is invaluable to the seasoned practitioner as well as to recent grads. When I sat for my exam - many years after graduation - the guide that was provided was a flimsy full-sized booklet of about 35 pages. If I were to take the exam now, I am confident that this book would be an excellent, stand-alone resource.
