Believe it or not I bought this to hold my Rode Micro boom pole and subsequent microphone and it works beautifully...largely because this is a really well constructed/robust product. It looks and feels excellent quality.The clamp attaches nicely to a given surface (a table in my case) and the remains sturdily fastened.Given my usage, I'm sure this could be used for many other purposes with a little imagination, extending the value of this product by a significant margin

.nearly lost my rod as clamp is useless when fishing when everything went overboard luckly had another rod out and got entangle with it and retrieved .only use it as a rod holder!!!! Non fishing implement.

Tested this little piece of cheap looking equipment expecting it to break......but it didn't! The guys on the boat weren't laughing anymore after my 3 offshore trip with this little holder. The (unscientific) test: I stuck a heavy duty rod (weighed a ton with the my 6/0 Senator Penn reel) in it and trolled a 15' deep diver at 7.8 knots. It held up!! Got a barracuda (only 8lbs) strike and it held. I was shadowing the rod nervously expecting it to break off the boat. But it held.I placed a 25' deep diver lure on it and tried trolling at 7 knots but the system kept slipping, even after tightening it down with a pair of pliers. Truth is, it was NOT designed for offshore fishing but it held up GREAT. The only real issue is the 'weak' pivoting point (the one that controls the 'left or right' angle that you set the rod). It kept slipping and my VERY HEAVY rod setup kept falling to the side of the boat.My summary: More than adequate for kayak fishing with light to medium action rod and lighter reels (lighter than a 3 lb Senator). INSHORE TROLLING: Good for inshore trolling using a light to medium action set up (again, don't go with a heavy reel). Using surface plugs or 2' - 15' divers should be good up to 10 knots. OFFSHORE: You will be playing Russian roulette! Do NOT take that chance! BUILD QUALITY: looks 'plasticky' but WILL surprisingly hold up to some good pressure. You will need a pliers to tighten up those knobs if you're going trolling.TIGHT LINES!

The quality of this product is not great (mostly the clamp. The rod holder itself is fine). The clamp is quite weak as it has no leverage or locking mechanism. It will loosen on your craft pretty quickly. Also the clamp is made of weak plastic and when you tighten it you can easily bend and break the plastic. I honestly don't think it's going to work for me. I really dont want to have to play around with this thing if it's not reliable out on the water. Will likely return. I would check out a more reliable brand that has a decent clamp. This design is just not secure enough.
