MESTEK Pinless Wood Moisture Meters for Non-Destructive Moisture Detection in Drywall, Wood, and Masonry, Large Color LCD and Alarm Moisture Reader Tester

If ever you have water flooding your basement and you call out a professional restoration company, its good to have this handy meter. The restoration company will take readings and tell you, but it may not be accurate. Their readings indicated they needed to come in a remove 4-feet of drywall on all walls. I bought this to read the moisture and the moisture was within 6 inches from the floor and not really wet. So always get one of these so the restoration companies don't dupe you. I am not replacing any drywall because I used fans and dehumidifier. Then I bought a Ryobi mister and sprayed Mold Control in a mist.

The MESTEK Pinless Wood Moisture Meter Drywall Moisture Detector is great! It does a great job looking for dampness on the walls. The look of it is nice (looks professional) and its comfortable in the hands and the price was just right! Over all a great purchase. Glad I bought it!

Does not measure mold. Not as described. Instructions are not clear.Results are questionable.

This makes a great moisture meter without the two puncture pins like most moisture meters do have.Everything needed to get started comes in the box. That's the meter,small Phillips screwdriver, and 3 aaa batteries, all in a nylon carry bag with a short 3-inch loop handle.Using this inside provides you with a vibrant color screen. However, using this outside on a sunny day will leave you thinking that the display is malfunctioning. It's extremely hard to view the screen outside and will leave you trying to create a shadow to see the screen or move this all around till you can see something.I find that using this requires more effort as you will need to keep constant pressure on the unit against what you are trying to measure. When comparing this to my puncture pin style unit, you have to press this one considerably harder against the object to get a comparable reading, whereas the pin style is fairly easy and instant.Trying to use this on firewood was a complete fail unless that piece has a perfectly smooth and wide enough edge to put this against; you will not get any usable reading.I would not recommend this if you are going to use this to check your aging firewood for moisture. You should stick with the needle type.If your intentions are to use this inside to trace down moisture in studs, concrete walls, etc., this is a decent option.

The product seems to work very well. I was not real sure how to take an accurate reading, but I figured it out after working with it for a few minutes. Good purchase.

I have water damage at home. I knew the drywall was wet. I compared with my friend's tool which accurately showed humidity almost at 100%, while this one showed 40% and data was inconsistent in other areas. Maybe penetration is poor. I returned the item.
