I bought this to help shape my new foal's hooves. She was born a little weak in the pasterns, so her foot was growing too much toe. I thought a little rasp like this would be great for a quick daily filing, until she learns to balance on three feet long enough to stand for the farrier. She was about 4 weeks old when the file arrived. Her hooves were still very small. The gadget was a handy size and compact enough to use on a wee horsey that wiggles around, needs me to help her stand steady, and isn't really halter broke yet. I had high hopes to get those toes filed back a bit. It absolutely did not work! The file part is simply not abrasive enough to do the job. I can't imagine using it on a full sized horse hoof. It might work on goats or sheep, but definitely does not work for horses. I sent this item back for a full refund and spent far more on a good quality one that works great.
