Kuhn Rikon Original 4-Inch Swiss Peeler, White

Rusty after one washing.
I like this style of peeler and was replacing something I had for years. I thought Kuhn Rikon was a pretty decent brand so I got this. After one round in the dish washer it started to rust. Now the blade is totally covered in rust and I'm throwing it away because I don't want metal in my food.

ZERO STARS.
This is a piece of junk.Holding this peeler is awkward. It feels very small in your hand and the way the handle is designed, it's not easy to grip. Also, since the body is made from pliable / bendable plastic, the blade came out of the handle when I tried to wash it. I had to pop it back in, in order to use it. Not a good sign. Also, not sure if this is good or bad, but it shaves very thin slices from whatever it is you're trying to peel. Since it's not adjustable (most, if not all peelers, are not), if thin slices are not your thing, you just have to keep peeling.Unfortunately, I can't give a long term review of this peeler... The thing rusted after the first time I used it!Don't waste your time or money on this.

Rusted - Misleading care instructions - NOT DISHWASHER SAFE!!!
I have other products by this manufacturer that I absolutely love, so I had no reservations when ordering this product. I wish I had read the questions, reviews, and description a little further before I purchased. They work perfectly until it’s time to clean them. I always double check before I put anything in the dishwasher. The symbol molded on the product seems to indicate that it is dishwasher safe... but this is very misleading. After reading more about this item I found out that it’s “not recommended” to run through the dishwasher. They seriously need to make that clear on the product itself. Maybe add an X through the symbol to indicate that it is in fact not dishwasher safe. I get that it probably would be fine IF you dry it right after the cycle is complete... but let’s be honest. NO ONE sits by their dishwasher and waits for the cycle to end so they can dry a peeler. I have never had issues washing other peelers in the dishwasher before. I would NOT recommend this product.

Beyond a doubt - the best
As a longtime cook I am always on the outlook for the best, most efficient instruments. This automatically excludes 95% of items sold. This "French peeler" is near perfection. Why would anyone use anything differently? I can remove the skins of peaches, pears and mangos, slice cheese, peel and thinly slice potatoes...and the price can't be beat. The Kuhn, by the way, was selected as the best peeler of 2018 at 1/3 -1/4 the cost of higher end competitors.

The best ever, and mine DON'T rust.
I waited for several months before posting a review, since I had read that these peelers have a bad rusting problem. Not that I can see. These are the BEST, ABSOLUTELY BEST peelers that I've ever used, and I'm 70. I was very skeptical at first, particularly given the low cost and seemingly "cheap" design (plastic). I will admit that the first time I used one I wasn't thrilled, but that turned out to be because I was putting as much pressure on it as I had on my former peeler. Once I learned to "lighten up" these peelers have sped through every peeling job I've given them, including peaches. I can't recommend them highly enough, particularly if you're like me and have arthritis in your hands and wrists. I heard about them first in "The Food Lab" by J. Kenji Lopez Alt and, since I found his book such a treasure, I decided to try them. Kenji was right.Regarding the "rust problem" — As I said, I've been using these peelers for months with NO sign of rust. I don't wash them in the dishwasher. (Why would you?) Since fruits and vegetables aren't laden with fat the wash-up is extremely simple. When I'm done peeling I give them a quick rinse under hot water, and dry immediately. They remain as rust-free and sharp (almost dangerously so) as they were the day they arrived. I cannot recommend them highly enough.ADDED on 4/20/18:I've now had these peelers for a little over 2 years. After a while, using them almost daily, I decided to try putting one of them in the dishwasher. I figured that they were cheap enough that even if one was destroyed I could get another. There were NO problems at all with washing these in the dishwasher. I put them in the silverware basket, which is in the bottom rack, and there is no difference that I can discern. All 3 of them are still as sharp as the day I bought them, and without any sign of rust. I'm 72 and I'll probably be able to will these to someone! You simply cannot go wrong with these peelers.UPDATE 7/27/20I've now had the peelers for 4 years, and regularly wash them in the dishwasher. They're just as sharp as the day I got them. They'll peel anything — including butternut squash. BEST. PEELERS. EVER!

I needed a really thin peel (no white from the lemon) and the Kuhn Rikon peeler was the absolute best. So
We have worn out (after 10 years or so) this peeler and can't live without them. No one in our town had them in stock when our last one quit peeling properly, so we bought a couple different ones locally while these were on order. I needed to peel some lemons for limoncello so thought I would try all 3 types. I needed a really thin peel (no white from the lemon) and the Kuhn Rikon peeler was the absolute best. So, if you want thin peels, this is the set to get.

Love it!
My son introduced me to this peeler and I have introduced others as I like them so much. For me, there was a small learning curve as I was used to ‘ye old potato peeler’, but once I got the hang of it, peeling veggies is a breeze. And not just veggies. I peeled a dozen apples this morning in no time at all.My first peeler is over five years old and still as sharp as the day son gave it to me. I rinse it in hot water, lay on the window sill to air dry and then store it to nothing rubs against the blades. I recently bought another set, kept one for myself (always good to have a back up) and gave the other two to my sister. She loves it too.

Misleading Product images!
I’m sure these work great, but a little disappointed to find it’s just 3 peelers but different colours. What I was actually after are different cuts from each, in particular thin matchstick cut. When you skim through the product images, it’s shows different cuts. Misleading and annoying.Just digging deep into the actual product page and it says it’s just 3 peelers. Why can’t you make that clear at the top of the description and also change the images used.

Simple, Functional, Ergonomic - the Best!
I've tried many peelers of different styles over the years but never found one I preferred to this model. I've had mine for 10 years plus and swapped blades in from several other less ergonomic peelers (seems to be a fairly standard blade size). If I could just buy spare Kuhn Rikon blades I would do so. This time I bought the pack of 3 to equip my kids with them too. Using the brand new peeler was a pleasure - and yes, I do need to get out more! You can also use it for making vegetable ribbons for stir fry etc.Don't waste your money on expensive or fancier looking ones, this is the simplest and best.

Sharp and comfortable to use
I've used this Swiss peeler for about 20 years now, and I love them. They are sharp, easy to use, very well-made and comfortable in the hand. I've tried all makes and sorts of peelers and always come back to a Kuhn Rikon. You really can't beat this excellent little peeler. I always take one on holiday!

Finest peeler on the market
These are brilliant. They cut the thinnest peel I have ever managed and feel substantial, built to last.I previously owned some nearly the same from Lak*land which I thought I loved best, but their lighter handles always snap apart eventually, whereas these are made more heavily. The blade is super sharp, yesterday I used them for peeling peppers, which I used to laboriously flame burn, in the past, to relieve them of the bitter skin. The roasted peppers were delicious, and prepared in moments. It must be good to peel extra finely as the nutrients in fruit and veg are largely below the skin anyway.I am really happy to have found these and reading the positive reviews gave me confidence.

Sharp and long lasting
These get heavy use in the pub kitchen where I work. The best value little sharpeners in bright colours so they are easy to spot amongst the piles of peelings! Very sharp and smooth cutting blades that last very well.
