MistyMate 11016 Misty 16 Hand-Held Personal Mister

this is so perfect to have when it's so humid outside. the fine mist is just enough to cool you off and not soak you wet. I even shared it with my dog when he comes over after catching his ball and he loves it! My 1 year old niece loves it and thinks it's a game as I cool her off with it! So far so good

worked great the first couple times - it does not pump up pressure anymore - love the concept, but needs to go back to the drawing board.

Product is just ok. It does mist as described but the product is messy as it leaks. I use it but am careful to keep it away from things I want to keep dry

Love this product! Such a better option than those fans that take batteries and break all the time. I have kids who use these and the fact that it's pressure powered is the best feature!

This design had the potential to be really nice. However, it just doesn't measure up.I had a Misty Mate mister years ago that was a quality product. It was pretty basic, but did the job. Brass nozzles, kept me cool, no complaints! I found a newer version of my old one today in a store, and it had a plastic nozzle, so I thought I'd buy this one instead...it looked pretty compact and like a decent product. WRONG.I read the back of the package, and it talked about how Misty Mate invested 10 years in the design and engineering of this ultimate mister. I was sold...my previous one was great, so I would assume they would only make it better. They should have their hands slapped for making that bold claim on the back of a package. It's just not true.First of all, the instructions stink. There are some generic instructions on the back of the package that aren't really specific to this model. I didn't realize that there were actually instructions tucked INSIDE the package. But those still weren't too clear. (A little clear to me that they were probably printed in China...they have that characteristic font that they use with English instructions printed in China)The second problem was getting the unit open. I'm pretty strong, but I COULD NOT get this stupid thing opened to put water in it. I made an excuse to my friends, telling them that it was probably because it was brand new, but after struggling for about 5 minutes to simply unscrew the top, I gave up and asked my fiancee's help. He struggled with it as well, and he's a VERY strong guy. We were a little concerned that in order to unscrew the top, we had to push on the face of the pressure gauge to get leverage, or on the pump handle. This seemed like a bad idea. Misty Mate, if you're listening, I would suggesting putting a ring of indentations here to facilitate unscrewing of the lid.Okay, unit open. Problem number three. How much to fill? The instructions say something about filling to 2" from the top. However, it also says fill it to the "top green dot" on the pump...but those two are completely different levels! I'm not sure what the purpose of the green dots are, but the green LINE on the Misty 3 is a much better indicator of fill line. The green dots are also different sizes...does this mean anything? I think most people expect a fill line. And I would expect it to be clearly marked on the BOTTLE, maybe even molded into the plastic so it doesn't rub off. Not some mystery green dots in the middle that aren't really clear.We filled it up. Problem four. We pumped it up 12 times (the instructions said 10-15), and noticed that we could hear a hissing noise. So we struggled with trying to tighten the lid. After much more struggling. We got the lid closed. Or so we thought.Problem five. After pumping up again, we watched the pressure indicator. The pressure would go up when we were pumping, then immediately start going down when we stopped. We verified that the valve wasn't open. It was completely closed. So it doesn't hold air. The instructions say to expect the gauge to reflect air loss when misting...but I don't think it's supposed to lose air when it's NOT.It did mist. Briefly. But in my experience with my previous Misty Mate, you pump it and it keeps pressure until you mist. This one won't stay pressurized.So again, we struggled trying to open it and troubleshoot the air loss. It took us way too much effort to unscrew the lid. It just doesn't work. And I would think it was an isolated incident except for the fact that I bought the Misty 3 AND the Misty 16, and both have significant problems.After researching on Misty Mate's website, I also noticed that every single one of their reviews is dated October 9, 2010. I'm not sure if they are bogus, but they seem like really fake glowing reviews. I usually research everything I buy, but on this one I didn't. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone. It is a neat, compact, design, but I think it falls completely short in the actual execution. I don't think it was ever tested with customers for usability.
