Well I've never written a review for something after I've had it for more than a year before, but that changes today. I bought this compost bin because I was sick of looking at the ugly plastic former one we had on our counter before we got this. Honestly I mostly got it just for aesthetic reasons since the stainless/black combo matches many of the accessories in our kitchen Turns out it functions better than the old one on basically every level as well. A few things I liked about it when we got it that are still going strong: -It's lightweight but still very sturdy, and the pop up mechanism that opens and closes the lid is super handy and still working perfectly after tons of daily use. -It's surprisingly easy to keep clean. When I do need to clean it, both the stainless-like metal material and the black plastic material of the lid take literally about a minute to wipe down effectively with a little all-natural multi purpose cleaner and a soft cleaning towel. -The inner bucket is also easy to clean and take out to our big compost bin outside. If any gunk has dripped into the main bin I can just wipe it down as well and rinse out the bucket and I'm good to go again. -You can use it with out without a bag. I bought some compostable bags that fit it perfectly but now I sometimes just use the compostable bags from the grocery store that I put my produce in. Not a perfect fit but still does the job very effectively. Also the best part is that you can tuck the bag under the bucket and close the lid over it so that you see zero of the ugly green plastic sticking out, just the clean design of the compost bucket. -It very effectively keeps the icky compost smell contained completely. Sometimes we forget to change it out for too long simply because we just don't smell it when we're not using it, which was NOT the case with other buckets I've had. Even though this costs more than many countertop compost buckets, it still is one of the best value items I've added to my kitchen in terms of how effective it is and how good it still looks.

Great item, with the stainless sides it looks like an nice appliance on the counter. Holds standard compost bags. Spring-loaded lid is very handy when your hands are messy with chopped veggies whose scraps you need to toss in the compost bucket. Seals well enough and the insert is easy to clean. We used to have a tall plastic bucket that looked cheap and always had to free up a hand to open; this is a big improvement.

More classy looking on the counter than the cheap plastic bins.
