Five Practice Tests for the Upper Level ISEE

Good for practice
I found this book 2 weeks before my son's ISEE test, I think it's the best on the market because of its full length of five upper level tests practices. The only thing I suggest for this book is to add explanation for the answers. I'm still confused about 2 questions answers besides the one mentioned in the previous review. One is Page 177- No21. and the other is on P201- No17.My son took ISEE already, he still has 8 math questions not reached, even after taking all these five practice tests, most of them were finished in time when practicing. He thinks the difficulty level is more higher in the real test, especially in the comprehension and math achievements parts, less questions are straightforward. This is only my son's personal feeling, but if your child is also taking ISEE, I suggest using more various types of materials, more challenging questions should be involved too. Math on Kaplan and Princeton is way more simple than the real one and only have one upper level test, but they have more verbals and explanation.

TRAPEZIOD
I love this book. I am going to help my 8th grade niece get ready for the January ISEE over Thanksgiving break. As a high school math teacher, I am going to help her with the math only, so I have started to look at those questions. I love the fact that there are so many questions to practice. Just by glancing through the book, I am concerned about question 23 on page 46. Depending on your definition of trapezoid (either the inclusive or exclusive definition), there could be two choices. Inclusive: A quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides. Exclusive: A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. I am attaching a picture of the question. With the exclusive definition, there is one answer choice, D. With the inclusive definition, there are two choices, A and D. Several years ago I was blind-sided by the inclusive definition, and I ended up writing a blog piece on it, which you might enjoy. Blog post: https://virgecornelius.com/2014/04/18/trapezoids/

Font / printing errors made some problems not do-able. [Update: fixed now]
The first few tests in this book were fine, but in tests 4 & 5 there was some sort of font problem such that capital letters used for the points in triangles came out as squares, rather than as the letters. This means that problems involving "What is the length of PR" or "What is the angle at S" couldn't be solved. Surprising that this sort of error so widespread in the book made it into production.Update: the author noticed my earlier review, and mailed me a new copy that doesn't have the printing errors, so I now feel more positive towards this book. The math problems do seem to be harder than most books' isee upper level math problems, but I'm game to believe that they're realistic, and in an email exchange with the author he successfully convinced me that my example of material I didn't see elsewhere (e.g. trig functions) are indeed officially part of the material the isee is described as covering in ERB guides. I appreciated his responsiveness.

Not Reflective of Content on Upper Level Test
I rarely leave reviews and definitely prefer to give high marks, rather than low, when I do. However, after purchasing this book to help my child prepare for the Upper Level ISEE test, I can honestly say that it is MUCH, MUCH easier than the actual test. My child completed every page and practice test in this book, aced every one and went into the Upper Level test feeling very prepared. However, the difficulty of the actual Upper Level ISEE was a shock to say the least. After taking the test, my child said that while this book does look a lot like the actual test in terms of format, it is definitely NOT reflective of the level of difficulty. After spending several hours researching resources that might be helpful and ultimately deciding to purchase this book, I wanted to leave a review that might help other parents in a similar situation. This may be a good a resource for lower levels of the ISEE test, but according to my experience, it should NOT be used to prepare for the Upper Level version. The level of difficulty is simply NOT reflective at all of the real thing. Skip this book if you are looking for something to help you or your child prepare for the Upper Level test.

Challenging book that prepares students well!
I've been tutoring the ISEE for the past four years and haven't been able to find challenging enough material for my students, but then I came across this book! This book has tests that will actually prepare my students for the difficulty of the ISEE. I've tried other books like Kaplan, and Princeton review, but their tests are way too easy and my students aren't well prepared on test day. I do agree with other reviews that this book can only be used with a tutor because there are no explanations. However, I'd like to change that! I'm interested in making solution videos for all of the problems in this book so that students can use it on their own, but can't seem to find any contact info for the author Chad Mills. Please contact me at [email protected] if you see this!

I've been waiting for years for a book like this and would recommend it highly to all our ...
I own a test prep company and I think this book is the most helpful that I have come across in my entire ISEE test prep career! The practice tests in Princeton Review and Kaplan, or even the ISEE for Dummies book are not standardized to ERB standards and are so variable in content, not to mention that the instruction in those books is totally incomplete and not specific to level, making it very hard for students and instructors to use. I've been waiting for years for a book like this and would recommend it highly to all our students. I am actually trying to get a hold of Chad (Jarrad??) Mills to create some sort of partnership, because I'd like to use his material and sell his book nationwide. I can't find you online, so please contact us at [email protected]!!!

Good tests, bad book.
Solid material for the Upper ISEE, but my book was riddled with formatting errors, making several questions unreadable. I had some of my students order the book and they had the same problem. Hopefully the problem has been fixed by now. Not sure if I'll give them another chance to find out.
