You won’t regret it
Perfect leverage, makes even small challenging oyster shucking a breeze. For years I’ve had a secondhand knife I got at Taylor Shellfish and although it’s done the job many many times, it was too worn.So after some research, I decided on this. I tend to buy items that will last even if the price is substantial. The build quality is excellent it will clearly be around for many years. So the bent tip really helps. I got a dozen Malpeque oysters to inaugurate the new knife. It did not disappoint. The thinner narrow shells are tricky - you have to get the knife in and leverage without breaking the shell, powering through or slipping. The shucking was a breeze and what I noticed is that the design makes it easy to ride the top shell and avoid puncturing the oyster while severing the adductor. Perfectly clean oysters and not a single issue. I have had issues with smaller, thinner shells where the initial pop (rotate) breaks the top shell in half. This prevented a lot of that due to the curve.Very happy with this purchase

Very happy with purchase
This was the third Toadfish oyster shucker I’ve purchased. We didn’t have enough to pass around while shucking oysters. It is very sturdy for opening oyster. Works great. It is comfortable to use.

Pleasantly surprised in an "emergency"
I bought this particular shucker because it was the only one I could find that would be delivered the next day. I had 3 dozen oysters waiting and I had misplaced my shucker. I was using a flat screwdriver in the meantime, which works, but if you've done it you know it's not optimal by any measure. This arrived promptly the next day, (thanks USPS!) and I got right to it. I really liked my old shucker (I hope it turns up), but it will definitely be my back up from now on. This one is better at popping the tougher shells and all around feels better in my hand. It's also really nice looking, as in I'll-probably-keep-it on-display nice. It was more than I would have liked to spend, but having it in hand, I'd say it's worth it. I would definitely get another of these if this one goes astray too.

I have like 6 Oyster Knives but this is a six Star
We eat oyster of many origins and types on the bi-weekly basis; I have many different oyster Shucking knives, usually if I do 60 Oysters I use all of them. Until i bought this I have tested several times this on Blue Point, Atlantic, etc. in average took me less than 10 or less to open them first day. I was thinking that may be the Oyster were not the hard type. But no, this Knife was really design by People in the Oyster business. I don’t know if its too early to say if the knife will last. But definitely it is the perfect design.

Really Well Made Knife, Grip Tape Makes it Better!
I shuck a lot of oysters and have used a lot of different knives. This is my first New Haven style knife with a slightly bent tip. It is billed as a big oyster opener but I tested it against some huge Pacifics and concluded that it is better to use an inexpensive, imported, crowbar style shucker than risk damaging such a fine blade. The ergonomics are great but as others have mentioned, the grip gets challenging when the handle is wet. I bought a rectangular sheet of Talon grip material and the grip is a lot better. It's one of my 4 favorite oyster shuckers. It can handle the most common oysters from the tiny Olympia to the larger Virginica. It's pricey but my other favorite all around shucker is the R. Murphy Wellsfleet which is around the same price but probably not as durable as the Toadfish.
