Revived my struggling ps3
Having had my ps3 for several years, I couldn't help but notice it wasn't as responsive as it used to be, and over the past 6 months it struggled to read dual layer blu-ray discs. My games could be inserted, but the machine would struggle to play them and would make several clicking noises between attempts to spin, then make an ejection sound, but fail to actually eject the disc.. After manually ejecting and inserting the disc (often more than 10 attempts and putting my machine at a series of angles was required) it would eventually read my games. This was far from ideal and was informed it was likely the laser and / or drive was dying and would only be a matter of time it would die completely.I snapped up the required model using the Nextek chart, and attempted to swap my drive myself. I followed a simple "how to" guide and within an hour, my machine was up and whirring again and so far 100% success of reading my old discs. Perfect.I am a complete novice when it comes to replacing hardware, however this was relatively simple. Just take your time, pay attention to EVERYTHING you do and work in an environment free of clutter. Happy gaming.

Replacement BluRay player for PS3
Experiencing the same problems as J Shaw - stuttering drive, whirring noises, games not loading or disc not being recognised.Came across this and thought I'd give it a go - cheaper than replacing the PS3!Arrived on the day it promised and within 1/2 hour the BluRay player in the PS3 is working fine. The instructions on the NexTec website aren't great, so I searched on YouTube and found 2 excellent videos from BubbleTonic on how to take apart your PS3 and, more importantly, how to put it back together with the new disc player.[...][...]BubbleTonic replaces the actual laser part of the BluRay player - but you just skip this part as the whole unit is replaced.Just be careful on the connections when putting it back together - I thought I'd been sent a duff but I hadn't connected one of the main connectors properly - they can be a bit fiddly. The drive from NexTec looked identical to the one it replaced. As soon as I placed a disc in the drive there was no more stuttering or whirring noises and the disc loaded straight away.

"CPR" 4 "PS3"
I love it - it has given my PS3 a new lease of life. I was suffering with not being able to read blu-ray movies or games, but now I can. I looked into getting a newer PS3, but they're about £90+. So getting another drive and I recommend looking at a few youtube vids on how to change a drive over is so worth the time. It did take me about an hour to swap the drives out - I was looking at the videos, pausing them - double and triple checking what I was doing and progressing. It is a little finicky for people like myself with "Sausage Fingers" but I did it and it works and the kids can play Ratchet & Clank again. Everybody's happy. Also, this is the first time I've done this sort of thing with a game console, and it felt really good to have fixed something rather than replace it.And the Torx T8 which is included is EXTREMELY handy.Thank You Nextec

Saved my PS3 slim!
Bought this as my ps3 slim wouldn't load a disc any more, it just took the disc in, tried to spin it, kept seating and reseating it then finally spat it out. I've seen people complain that these are not new, well I really wasn't expecting a brand new one at this price, but the one I received certainly looked VERY close to new. Excellent condition. You have to fit the old logic board from your original blu-ray drive as it is paired with the ps3's mainboard. And also you need to use the old metal shield from your original drive. The listing is quite clear about these things.I changed the drive over in about 20 minutes and my ps3 slim once again plays every disc just fine. A decent price to completely saVe my PS3!Thanks very much!

Product not a described.
Although my PS3 is now working....Not completely happy with my purchase as it is clearly not a new unit, in fact the condition of the drive chassis and mechanism showed clear signs of age and wear and was much worse than the one I removed, it appears to me that these are reconditioned units by marrying a used chassis with a replacement laser mechanism (which did look new). The product was described as new but I do not agree that this is a fair description. If I had the time I would have returned it, as I am concerned other non replaced components might fail early. In addition, although this is NOT the sellers fault, the effort required to replace this (because you also have to refit your old enclosure and pcb) is only fractionally less than replacing just the laser mechanism, so my tip to anybody who knows that the laser is faulty on their drive is just to buy the laser mechanism, which is half the price of this unit.

KEEP YOUR OLD DRIVE TOO!
Drive is great, but picture is misleading - the drive does not come with the top or bottom shielding. Nor does it include the interface printed circuit board (PCB), so DON'T THROW OUT YOUR OLD DRIVE until after you've fitted this one! This drive requires you to fit the connectors to the PCB and attach the shielding before installation, but it's quite easy to do so - just be delicate when removing the connectors from your old drive. I'm sure there will be YouTube videos explaining further.

Does what it says on the tin....
The drive arrived on time and was adequately packaged. Was pretty easy to replace, but the drive didn't work first time around.I disassembled the drive and compared it to the original one from my PS3. Turned out that the cable on the replacement laser was inserted the wrong way around. After turning the cable around on the replacement laser and reattaching it to the PCB the drive worked.

PS3 250GB Slim .New blue ray
I was a little worried that the disk loading magazine would look worn(the plastic bit) having read other reviews , as this is where the fault lay in my old PS3 rather than the laser.Looked new to me, changed over p.c.b as per instructions and ps3 playing games again. 250GB slim, check code before you buy as you will have to take faulty blue ray out anyway. It's worth mentioning blue ray has only been in a few nights at point of review but real pleased so far
