DC motor worth the extra cost
It seems like there are no reviews on the DC motor versions of this product, and there aren't many fans with DC motors for sale on Amazon or elsewhere so I felt compelled to share my experiences. I think the DC motor version of a fan - no matter the size fan you buy - is worth the upgrade for several practical reasons:-it runs much quieter across all speeds-can go to a much much lower speed (thus running even quieter per first point)-has stepless speed adjustment (see pics) allowing for finer speed control-and about 50% more energy efficient than the AC motor version. What's not to like? You'll save the cost difference in energy savings alone in one summer and get additional benefits.I compared the 20" iLiving to the HiCFM 24" (also on Amazon) both with the DC motor and noticed a couple important factors that make the iLiving better overall in my opinion. Firstly it has a top handle whereas the HiCFM model did not. It has an offset side handle which means you can't pick it straight up, and the iLiving is smaller/lighter. This simply makes it easier to pick up and move around all things being equal.I thought the HiCFM wheels actually made it harder to move around because they're small and without the top handle getting it up and down even a small set of stairs was more of a challenge. The 24" iLiving which I didn't test has larger wheels which I can see being more practical.I noticed the DC motor on both models was nearly identical in shape and size. This being said, I stood in front of both models on high and noticed (subjectively) the iLiving airflow was stronger and more direct where the HiCFM was more diffuse and spread out. Not that either is "better" but I preferred the more direct airflow of the iLiving. Plus due to the size of the HiCFM my partner wouldn't let me keep it anyway - it is quite large and loud on high too. Where the 20" iLiving is smaller and easier to store. Plus it runs a little quieter. Better all around compromise in my opinion. To my knowledge there aren't any other 20" barrel fans for sale on Amazon with a DC motor option, so I'm keeping it. I hope this helps someone.

Quiet, and great speed control!
This is a nice and VERY BIG piece of equipment. I bought this as an upgrade to the typical 20" high-velocity fans at the big-box stores, choosing this one specifically for the DC motor and continuously variable speed control. I wanted speed control because very often the lowest speed on the typical 3-speed fan was still too high and noisy. In other times, "medium" was too low and "high" was too much. I tried a few speed control devices on multiple AC-motor fans, and while the controllers gave me the speed control I wanted, the speed control method these controllers use (waveform chopping) created its own noise in the fan. This product solved the problem. It is well-built with a very comfortable handle and onboard cord storage. It's UL Listed and comes with a fused plug. The only thing I wasn't expecting its size, which you might want to consider if you are limited on storage space.

Quiet fan
I love DC fans because of how quiet they are. I use this fan in my living room when I workout or on warm summer days. This fan is powerful and seems to work well. I've been using it for a little over 6 months now.

Good design, but fan blades were not properly attached
When I was unpacking the fan as received I heard the fan blade assembly hit the front grill. Upon closer inspection I could see that the set screw on the fan coupling was loose; tighten same. In spite of the loose fan and poor quality control, this fan is smooth running, fairly quiet, and designed well. Quality contro

DC motor is very quiet, blows strait ahead not spread around.
I have bought many fans, this is by far the best fan I ever used. Liked so much I bought one for my daughter and another one for my house. No bull good DC fan . Very quiet ,moves a lot of air , very little electricity being used Mike Ski

MOVES A LOT OF AIR
I purchased this fan due to the D.C. MOTOR i.e. brushless. I was not aware of all of its aspects, but I think if you need to move the air for your greenhouse or work, this is a solid bet. It is also not so loud, if used down the hall you won't be bothered, but not for sleeping.

Moves Air!
Perfect for my paint room where I needed a serious fan that did not break the budget. Great that the handle and stand are removable.
