Sticky adhesive is not strong enough.
I bought 5 and within 12 hours of installing, 2 had fallen from the ceiling, cracking the plastic housing of the light weight smoke detector that I had attached to them. Not worth using these at the risk is breaking the more expensive smoke detector.

It works--very strong magnets make it easy to place a smoke detector without having to drill into either a wall or ceiling.
