Model Steam Engines (Shire Library) Paperback – June 22, 2010

Although a rather small book, it showed me some models of mini steam engines that I had not come across even on eBay. I find that if you take each book for what it presents, you can find a gem in the most interesting places. Also, not everything comes in color! Looking at the world in black and white can give you a different view of it and maybe you will see a bit of life (or mini steam engines) that you might have missed if the picture had been in color. Small but powerful.

Nice item but I would not describe it as a book. It was more like a 6 x 9 or 5 x 7 pamphlet. Less then 1/4" thick. Some good photos, but I expected a treatise on model steam engines. Instead, it is a group of historical pictures of scale model replicas and engines engineers built as part of their training or study of steam engine construction, type, and configuration. I think a more accurate description of the item would be fairer to the buyer. I am an ardent book collector and posses many special books on many subjects. This one fell short of my expectations.

Very nice pictures with captions, not a great deal of content

A great pictoral study of model steam engines. Provides a wonderful explanation of the subject of steam engine models and their display.

The cover photo is the best one in the whole book. The description makes the book sound great, but it doesn't even come close to living up to it. Small format with small, grainy black and white photos. High contrast black and white photos actually work quite well for this type of subject as well as machining topics, but not small grainy ones. For more than twenty years "The Home Shop Machinist" was entirely in black and white, but the photos were always large and clear. It's interesting to see some scale steam engines built in the nineteenth century during the dawn of steam model engineering, but far superior photographs and information can be found online.

My last purchase was good .. excellent, like new condition. I knew what the book consist of, but others I don't know .. so, would be very helpful to now how many pages the books consist of .. Good info, if used as part of a serise of books on steam enginewill take you a long way to building your own steam engine

The book was okay. I was disappointed to see him use the handle "tubalcain" which led me to believe he was Mr. Pete of YouTube fame. I felt this was misleading as he is nothing like Mr. Pete.
