The Atlas Comics Library No. 2: Venus Vol. 2 (The Fantagraphics Atlas Comics Library)

Beautiful and Bizarre
This is a beautiful presentation by Fantagraphics and comics historian Michael Vassallo of perhaps the oddest Atlas (aka Timely and later Marvel) pre-code title. What started as a fantasy-romance comic starring Venus, the Goddess of Love, and dealing with romantic problems in a modern day office setting evolved into Venus - Strange Stories of the Supernatural. These are truly strange stories too - violent ghosts and ghouls, evil scientists and magicians, and even the end of the world. Unlike Black Cat Mystery, where the Black Cat only remained as part of the title, Venus continued to star in most of these horrific tales. While the writing is really wild (verging on incoherent at times), the art by Joe Maneely, Bill Everett, etc. is excellent. Recommended!

Nice book
Great book but I got in the first copy and had splitting on the spine. Sent for a return and got another copy the next day. Just be aware when you get one.

Qualidade do produto

Great book but cheap binding.
The only problem is the cheap binding. It makes a CRACK noise when I open the book. The material is first class-best of the best. A great book. 3 issues by WERNER ROTH and 6 written and drawn by BILL EVERETT. The filler stories are by misc. Artist like Sol Btodsky, Grne Colon ect.

Superb from Fantagraphics
Great to finally get the latter half of the Venus stories after the stop / pause in Atlas MMW editions. The stories are generally all of very high standard, Bill Everett was a master of this material which extends into humour, weird, horror, super hero and more. The intro is great as well as the restoration which is first rate (not a sign of Marvel's total restoration of the work approach), I prefer this style any day. It has been cleaned up and it looks close to (though not exact) to a comic as it was on the news stand of the day.Totally recommendedOnly moan would be Fantagraphics, please distribute this properly to the UK - I had to order this from the US Amazon and it is not available in our local comic stores. I buy many Fantagraphics books from Amazon etc and it would be great to be able to order the Atlas Library ones in the same way
