Q: Is this stuff supposed to be as hard as a rock? I don't think my cat can even eat it, it's so hard.

The Pattie’s aren’t hard but need to be crumbled up. There’s another form of it in a small pellet form. My cat found them too hard and wouldn’t eat them. I put them in a blender and she still wouldn’t. So gave them to my dog a few at a time who gobbled them down.

Q: So are the turkey and the chicken flavored nibs really harder than conventional kibble? My cat is 18 and loves kibble. I want to switch to these.

Vital Cat freeze-dried min nibs are meant to be hard and crunchy like a traditional kibble. The nibs are not necessarily any harder than kibble, but of course it would depend upon what your pet currently eats as well.

I’ve never seen any discrete bones in this formula; it appears to be a very fine grind of meat and bone that is extruded into pellets and then freeze-dried. That doesn’t mean quality control catches everything every time but I’ve been feeding my cats this for years and never seen any visible bone pieces.
