No we haven’t had a real fire, but very sturdy box , heavy box, hope this helps

Q: Do a4 folders, not the paper, the folders that the papers are filed in, fit in the box? or is the box only big enough to fit 'naked' a4 paper in?

To my knowledge only a4 paper will fit. Anything larger will have to be bent.

Q: Is it also waterproof?

Hi Arron, The Honeywell 1101 1/2 Hour Fire Chest does have what seems to be a good seal around the lid. But, to answer your question, it hasn't been exposed to water yet and I hope it never does. If however it does become exposed to water, I would hope it would keep the contents dry. From Davey59

Hello, I think it is waterproof enough but I wouldn't leave it inside water long. However, it is very very heavy and difficult to handle. Also has to be stored horizontally. I am returning the one I bought and have brought the smaller version of it
