McAlpine STW3 Shower Waste Trap Clean Out Dip Tube Only White 75mm Long

I had a leaking shower. An old one of these was the culprit, the rubber seal decayed beyond use. So I took it out, measured it up, found that this item was the exact same thing and ordered one.Time passed, not much, but enough, and I forgot which way up it was supposed to go. When the new one around the castellated edge on this tube was an exact fit for the shower waste cover, so I thought it went in with the two of them neatly fitted together; in other words, the opposite way round to the picture of the item shown here. It went it, but there was about a centimetre left standing proud. I pushed, and twisted, and swore, and then did it all again, but I couldn't get the damn thing to fit flush.Eventually, I tried putting it in the other way up without the waste cover attached. Result! It fitted easily, the waste cover popped on the top, it sat flush with the floor of the shower and not a drop leaked out when I had a shower afterwards.So, let me be the only fool who got confused about this. Learn from my mistake; those little cut-out notches are nothing to do with the shower waste cover, for all that they fit so neatly together. Those notches go at the bottom, the rubber seal goes near the top, just as the picture here shows, then the waste cover pops on and the job's a good 'un. Hope you're as happy with it as I am and my confession of being a idiot stops you from repeating my mistake.

Difficult to rate as it didn't fit. However, it gave me an idea for repairing the old waste which worked. The old one is of a size no longer in production, so would mean changing the whole waste section.

It fits perfectly and nasty smell from shower drain is gone. Great value for money!
