Used them for onion and cheese canapés. Froze them, come out great. A bit expensive though

Perfectly thin and crisp, but quite expensive
These little pre-made pastry shells are a quick and convenient way to produce appetisers, and guaranteed to be free from soggy bottoms. This ‘pesto’ version incorporates Italianate pesto herbs garlic, basil, and parsley into the pastry - though no Parmesan or pine nuts. The pastry cases are made with all natural, recognisable ingredients, and have no preservatives - despite this the pack I received has a best before date in January 2025, around 17 months from receipt. The ingredients used are vegetarian and vegan friendly, though these are evidently produced in a factory which handles eggs, as these may be present in trace amounts - so for the strictest of vegans and those with egg allergies these may not be suitable. The pastry contains sugar, but is not notably sweet. The pastry cases are made with palm oil, which is not the best environmentally, and they are packaged in a lot of plastic - vacuum sealed, and placed in (hard to recycle) black plastic trays. None of the cases I received in this pack was damaged, though I also received a tomato pack to review and some of these had minor breakages. The shells are beautifully thin, and bake to perfect crispness within just a few minutes. I pictured some of these along with some of the tomato version used to make vegan mini quiche alternatives (the ‘cheese’ pictured on top of a couple of these is a pre-grated coconut oil mozzarella alternative). The only issue is the price point - £9.99 is quite a lot for 24 bite-sized pastry cases, working out at almost 42p per piece before fillings are added. The bulk pricing for 240 cases reduces this to about half.

Don't work as a sweet option at all
If you're having a savoury appetiser and want something a bit fancy then these shells do provide a good base. They are bitesize so depending on the filling, can be eaten without mess. On the front of the box it shows both a savoury and sweet uses so I tried both. The first I made a fajita filling adding some plain yogurt to help cool the spices a bit and it worked well. The only downside really was the hardness of the shell making it quite awkward to bite into and chew. It provides a nice flavour - it has that tomato flavour with hints of garlic, paprika and basil. So I did find this a bit odd when it comes to using it as a sweet base. I tried it with just plain yogurt, blackberry and strawberry and it was just too overpowering a flavour which didn't match the sweetness at all. I'm not keen on the packaging but it does protect the cups from breaking. Once opened they need to be kept in a sealed container or they do get a bit softer. They are quite expensive at £10 for a 24 pack but they do seem good quality.

Terrible
The Amazon box came open. The product came damaged. And in addition as I could see it was super small.

Delicious, super-convenient buffet option
These little pastry bowls are perfect for a dinner party starter or finger buffet item. They have a smooth, buttery texture to them, and a little bit of pesto flavour that’s not too overpowering. They hold their structure well even if they get a little damp if you use mayo or more pesto in the filling. They have a good crunch to them, and the size of them makes them a very satisfying full-mouth single bite- though trying to eat them as two bites can get a bit messier, as they don’t necessarily break where your bite lands. You can fill them as though they were mini pie crusts, quiche crusts, or even biscuits- the flavour is such that they’ve got both savoury and sweet potential. They’re even sweet enough that you can even eat them without any filling at all, as an interesting half-crisps half-biscuit affair, and still enjoy them.A pack of 24 is expensive- you save about 50% by buying a pack of 240, which is obviously geared towards bulk catering for weddings and so on, but even at that price they work out at over 20p each which is still very high. For bulk catering you could probably get the right trays and the right ingredients and make some yourself for that price, saving money by losing the convenience. There’s no denying they have ‘wedding price markup’ on them at time of writing, and that’s why I won’t be coming back and buying more unless I’ve got a specific event to cater for.But if you are catering for a party or an event and you want a way to make homemade finger food that looks smart but is really convenient, then these are a really easy win that should impress your guests. So as long as the price doesn’t bother you, go for it.

Good quality and convenient
I love the convenience of this packet of small tartlet shells as you have ready-made pastry cases ready to be filled.I made cheese and onion quiches in these tomato tartlet shells and whilst I liked the taste and texture of them, I don’t think they particularly tasted of tomato. Although they are well packed, a few of the cases had broken a little around the rim but all 24 were useable. For convenience, speed and high quality I would recommend these CROC’IN tartlet cases.

Comunque fantastici!
