Christmas in Noisy Village (Picture Puffin)

Absolute Treasure - Child's Christmas 100 years ago in Sweden
Please consider getting this wonderful book by Astrid Lindgren for an amazingly low half price now (regular eight dollars, but worth so much more!). There are full color illustrations on every page by Ilon Wikland - Astrid Lindgren's original illustrator which are amazing. This story partly overlaps with one Christmas experienced in first person by main character Lisa in her 3-part Noisy Village series, but totally worth to have both for the illustrations, and because it makes a wonderful gift and reading experience for elementary aged children during advent.

Charming Christmas book
Each year I buy a book or two to add to our Christmas book collection. This is a sweet book that takes 10 min or so to read, and I assume itโs from the longer chapter book by Lindgren. It would be a nice read aloud for grades 1-4 in a Christmas around the globe unit. Iโm pleased with the bookโs content, construction, and appearance.

Great story!
I adore the books about the children of Noisy village by Astrid Lindgren and was very happy to find an English translate. I am happy to see the original illustrations, although I was not fond of the format of this specific item. It is kind of flimsy in it's oversized, rectangular form with soft covers. Based on this experience I would recommend to find same book but with hard covers. The story itself is very nice and give a great image of Swedish christmas celebrations.

Great picture book for those who loved The Children of Noisy Village
This book is great, its a nice, colorful picture book to accompany the two chapter books about these children--The Children of Noisy Village, and Happy Times in Noisy Village--and there is another picture book focused on Easter to buy as well. My daughter (age 6) loved the series and was sorry there weren't more stories about Noisy Village. One small note: the chapters are very short and would be fine for children ages 4-8 (there are a lot of pictures), but its clear that in the chapter devoted to Christmas--which is a charming chapter altogether--the children no longer believe in Santa Claus, so some quick editing needs to be done if you are reading out loud to your small ones! The picture book doesn't have this problem.

I loved this book as a child. My daughter now loves it. The simply story and beautiful illustrations capture the magic of Christmas for a child.

I loved finding this book in the 1980's to read to ...
I loved finding this book in the 1980's to read to my boys. It described the Christmas celebrations at the turn of the century in Sweden, where my own grandmother was born and raised before immigrating to the U.S. Astrid Lindgren is better known for her Pippi Longstocking books, but this little book is a gem to share with children at Christmas!

Cozy Christmas story
The Children of Noisy Village are precious and so is this story. The pictures are wonderful. When the book arrived, the top of the pages hadnโt yet been separated, burn i took some scissors and cut them myself, problem solved!

Charming, if a little dull
I was happy when I saw there was a Christmas picture book featuring the children of Noisy Village. I remembered enjoying reading The Children of Noisy Village to my son a few years ago, so I thought this would be a nice Christmas book to add to our collection. When I read it though, I was a bit disappointed. It does have a certain kind of charm, being about a group of Swedish children enjoying Christmas back in the 1920's. And the colourful illustrations are very sweet. However...there isn't much of a story. The book simply details what this group of children did on one particular Christmas. The things they ate. The games they played. The places they went. You get the idea. And then at the end, they declare that Christmas is a lot of fun. And that's it. I think it would be better to read the original Noisy Village book that this material was taken from, which is a wonderful book.My 5 year old son did listen to the end of the story, and seemed to like it, but frankly, I was bored long before we got to the end. If you and your children are big fans of the Noisy Village books, you may enjoy seeing your favourite characters in picture book format. And it is nice to see how Christmas was celebrated in another time and place. But if you are looking for a funny, amusing, or touching Christmas story, you might wish to look elsewhere. A very touching story I recommend is The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree. One with absolutely stunning illustrations is The Twelve Days of Christmas by Laurel Long.
