Yes it's a clear glass window with clear plastic doggie door. We did have to modify to fit our door but we are are really happy with this purchase and our dog loves it

will it work on a vinyl door?

I believe it will work just fine. The frame just fits inside the sliding door frame so it shouldn't matter if the patio door is metal or vinyl.

Is there a version where the dog door is closer to the ground? My dog is only 70lbs but hits his back paws while going through

There are custom panels available where you can adjust the step over, but you often have to go with a larger flap to accommodate the lower flap placement FYI. Just search for Custom Ideal Fast Fit
