Q: Can I use this on old cabinets installed in 1972? Also, can I use it on the inside of the cabinet or is it just for the outer doors?

Yes. Inside or outer surface, wherever you have wood grain that you want to make smooth. I used Aqua Coat on the outside of oak cabinets and both sides of the doors and drawer fronts. The outside of the doors needed 3 coats with light sanding (220) between coats. It was labor intensive for the 22 cabinets I painted but well worth the time and effort.

Q: what if the cabinets have already been painted? Should I sand them all the way down Or will a light sanding work?

If there's more than one coat of paint you'll have to get a gallon or so of some good paint stripper, a few soft brass brushes, some small putty knives, a respirator and chemical-proof gloves and strip the paint off because the cabinet doors won't close correctly with all of the built-up paint. THen let them dry for a day or two and sand them with some 80 to get any scratches you, made from scraping them and 150. ts a lot of work but take your time and do it right. When all thats done use your filler and 150 1nd 220 then you can start your primer.

Q: Can I let the final Aqua coat layer stand two weeks before painting?

Yes you can let it dry for an unlimited time before applying primer and paint. Just make sure you lightly sand with 320 right before you start applying your primer.

Q: Can this be used in exterior applications subject to the weather?

This is water Bourne product so it would need to be primed and painted.other products may be a better option. This product is not cheap. It does work well to hide wood grain.
