Osmo3044 2.5 litres Polyx Oil Natural Transparent - Raw

Ok, so in quick summary, I used this product on an engineered Canadian white oak laminate floor that I drum / edge sanded back to the raw white oak timber and got fantastic end results, I am very very pleased with how my floor turned out, its literally like when I sanded it, no gloss, no colouring, just my oak floor how I wanted it.I never write reviews, but for this product I decided I had to as a lot of people put doubt in mind as to what finish I would get from this oil, I was almost put off with people complaining that this product was essentially white washing their floors? Honestly, after using this product I have no idea how they have let that happen to their floors? They must have literally poured the oil all over it and just left it sitting!?... You really really really must read the tin, it says use very sparingly and apply very thinly, a further bit of digging on the web revealed that it was recommend to use just 30ml of Oil for every square meter of floor, that is literally barely anything at all, but it really is the best advice I was given and i'll give it to you too, to help I bought a small measuring jug and made sure that I was spreading out only 30ml at a time pouring just what I needed in to my paint tray, you can see the oil darken the timber as you're working with it so you know it's doing its job, to help people out, I forked out £30 for the Osmo brush, its not a gimmick, it really helps and i really recommend this too, I avoided the roller altogether as I didn't think it would work an oil like this in to the timber properly or rigorously enough, the brush allows you to run with the timber grain and force all the oil down the boards neatly and evenly and even when you think all the oil is off the brush another pass reveals there was still plenty there to do more of the board length, this is how you avoid "white marks" work the oil in well and spread it far and wide, remember that you're doing a couple of coats here, so don't rush and don't over do things on your first pass, for anyone wondering I got the 150mm brush so i could do an entire board width in one pass, I found this really helps even out the oil coverage, while talking timber you must make sure you prep your floor properly, sanding up to a 120 grit as recommended by Osmo, this is smooth enough to be comfortable to walk on and coarse enough to let the oil soak in well.It was relatively easy to use, you really don't have to be a pro wood worker to get this product working hard for you, just TLC, patience, use sparingly and remember 30ml for every m2 of flooring.Love my floor, really not worried about coating it again in a years time.

When thinking of buying this I relied heavily on reviews so I thought I’d return the generosity (and hopefully help others!). I’d been recommended Osmo by a friend and seen lots of people use it on their renovation projects on Instagram. But thought it was very expensive and worried it was actually overhyped (I was wrong, it was worth it). I bought some testers (definitely do this!) and was surprised to see that the ‘Clear’ one had a VERY orange effect on the wood. Didn’t like it because we wanted to keep the wood colour light - as close to the real thing as possible (we have pine floor boards). After some research, we decided to go for the ‘Raw’ one (no tester, eek) and thank goodness it gave the effect we wanted! It still tinted the wood ever so slightly but no orangeness - just makes it a tad shinier (matt shiny) and brighter. If you want it to be super light with no orange or yellow tint you could try getting the ‘White’ tint tester and compare. I would have done this if I had more time! Pictured as a trio: Floor before sanding, floor sanded, floor sanded and with two coats of Osmo Raw. Then another picture close up to show you what the tint looks like while wet. Oh another couple of tips - definitely WIPE OFF excess oil. The white bits don’t dry! And use the oil VERY sparingly - it really doesn’t need much. We bought one 2.5L and it covered two rooms the size of roughly 4m x 3m each (yes, 2.5L will do two coats!)

I used this on some oak doors. I realised quickly that I'd bought way too much as you need to use it very sparingly. It hardly changes the colour of the would at all. It accentuates the grain and makes the wood just a shade darker. Completely invisible once dry it leaves the wood looking natural and untreated. If that's the look you're after this is a fine product.

This stuff applies well but needs to go on thinly and be well worked in. Used on veneered oak doors from Howdens with no issues. The problem is there are variations, the RAW comes as 3033 or 3044, they have differing finishes and white content according to Osmo but there is nothing to tell you the details so beware what you buy if multiple tins. You can't mix them.

Excellent product. This brings out the grain in the wood but does not look like it’s been treated at all. There is no shine to it like you get with varnish but it’s well protected (even from kid’s vomit!!!)

This oil has ruined our brand new oak floor, the discription of the item is incorrect it is not clear or transparent. The white pigment in the paint is very noticeable and makes the floor look dirty. We applied the paint as described but the seller is saying we have over applied. After speaking to the manufacturer they said this should only be used by professionals as there is a lot of prep work required. The seller is unwilling to offer any help in resolving the issue and we are now looking at over £1000 to repair the damage this paint has caused. Amazon have been no help at all, be careful when buying from third party suppliers on Amazon as they except no responsibility for incorrect descriptions or faulty products (it’s in the small print). Wood Finishes Direct have been really helpful so I’d use them.

just starting to use it, I found it best to put on with a cloth, be warned, you need to wear gloves, very sticky, but my oak doors are looking great

This is an absolute fantastic product. Did two big room and a hallway with it, a little goes a long way. I used the Osmo brush and went over it with a dry foam roller to ensure no excess. Absolute love how there's no warm tones and it dries matte. Definitely recommend. Anyone complaining about white look or splodges used way too much product. Less is more with this! My floors look fantastic and have a new lease of life
