Very good
very good nutcracker. did not stick even when I did not grease it with oil. Of my 3 previous sinners, this is the best. the size of the nut is very good, a lot of filling fits in.

Has a learning curve, but works good
It will take a while for you to figure out this item completely right, you will get some burns, some raw cooks and maybe some off flavors, but at the end you will be pleases with how it works. Look for a nice recipe first that has good reviews and give that one a try, there are many variations, some even ha mayo on them... but they actually turn out good.Also... I think is better if you just get used to the fact that this item needs to get "seasoned" so try not to super wash it often, do clean it but I think is best to treat it more like cast iron. Highly recommended.

Great, but not quite what we expected
This cookie mold was ordered in anticipation of the numerous social events planned for the upcoming holidays. Despite the item description listing the size, it's much smaller than expected. The mold has 12 individual segments, each making up one half of the final walnut shell shape, so you can bake 6 full walnut-shaped cookies each time with this mold. It takes only a few minutes per side to fully cook the shells, but in order to have enough delicious sweets for a houseful of guests, it is going to take many, many molds full of batter to complete the task. Though it's too early to start baking Christmas cookies, I am eager to do more than speculate. I suspect we'll love the final result and will just accept that the labor in this "labor of love" is worthy of the effort.PROS: Affordably priced despite being such a niche, specialty item. The item itself appears to be well crafted and I expect it to last.CONS: As I said, the mold is relatively small and may not be ideal for someone who needs to bake many, many of these. If you zoom in on the photo you can we placed a nickel into one of the mold shapes to illustrate the scale. Somehow I envisioned it being about the size of a pizza pan, which is entirely my own mistake. I know the mold shapes are essentially of an actual-size walnut, but it still somehow seems tiny! Probably just the result of many years of "Big Gulp"-tastic American conditioning, but hey.Side note: There is a larger version of this one available, the difference being that this one makes 12 shell halves and the larger one makes 16.In the end, I'm excited to put this mold to use and try out some recipes we've been finding - the Nutella-filled walnut-shaped peanut-butter cookies we're already planning are definitely going to be a hit this Christmas!

Is it safety?
I washed it thoroughly before using them, but there was aluminum or something similar on the dough

Thrilled to have found this cookie mold to make the Russian walnut filled cookies
I have been wanting to make myself the traditional filled Russian Walnut cookies ever since I first tasted one at a Christmas party a few years ago, but I had no idea what the cookie was even called to find a recipe, let alone where you would find the mold to purchase, until I saw one being sold on Amazon quite by accident this summer and named the cookie. So needless to say, I am very happy to now own this Oreshki cookie mold, discover the formal name for this cookie, and located a recipe to make them, courtesy of other sellers and reviewers on Amazon. So this cookie mold appears to be really well made. The mold itself makes 12 half walnuts, or 6 completed cookies per batch. The metal used is thick and sturdy and the hinges appear secure. The top and bottom pieces of the mold fit together really well, with no gaps, so I am hoping there will not be too much of a greasy mess after cooking with it to have to clean up afterwards. The wood handle will make the mold comfortable to hold, and helps keep your hands cool. The weight of the cookie mold is not particularly heavy. The nut shell design of this mold is deep and precise, so after the cookie is baked and assembled, I am quite sure it would not be mistaken for just a circle or oval shaped cookie but actually will have the appearance of a walnut.I like the size of this particular cookie mold, as it will fit a single standard sized burner on a stovetop which means less having. to move it around to make sure the cookie dough does not burn in one section and barely cook in another. Further, while the size of the mold only allows enough space to make 6 cookies per batch, the size of the cookies when done will not be small, but a good size. A cookie mold that was larger to make more cookies at the same time would be harder to find a storage spot for as well, plus being heavier overall.I will be making cookies using this mold closer to Christmas time, and will update my review after that time if I have any real issues using this mold. I have both a gas stovetop and an individual electric burner that I can try using this with. I am so happy to be able to be able to add this cookie to my Christmas cookie recipes, as it will be something different and unique for my family to have over the holidays, and I am also quite sure at least one other person in the family will decide they want to try making these cookies themselves too after they see the cookies and taste them.I received the product for free through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for my honest review. I'm giving it 5 stars, based on how well this item appears to be made and how the nuts were designed on this mold, because that is a clear indication of how well the cookies will resemble a walnut after they are baked using this mold.

Labor of Love
This is work, but really cool cookies. It took a little experimenting and researching how to use this thing but, eventually, I got it pretty much figured out. The first pic is my first attempt cooking them in the oven, result: don't do it, this pic is after 16 minutes in the oven at 375 degrees. Next I tried stove top at 400 degrees for ten minutes, I used a portable burner in case it spooged out of the mold, which it did. Lots of smoke and a big mess, but it worked. Next time I use this I have to remember, the balls of dough should only be about the size of an old glass marble, maybe half inch in diameter. Any more and you get what I got, a big mess. I think the temp should probly be a little lower too, but it worked. Brush it down with olive oil too, don't use PAM. All I had to fill them with for now was dark chocolate chips, which weren't bad at all.If you want to make enough for more than a couple of people, be ready to spend a lot of time or get more, or bigger, Oreshki molds. Results are great, just labor intensive.
