The second series of the Brothers shows the further ups and downs of Hammond Transport Services Limited and the trials and tribulations of Edward (played by Patrick O'Connell as a replacement for Glyn Owen), Brian and David as three brothers who received shares from their late father in equal shares along with his mistress and secretary Jennifer Kingsley. There are 13 episodes across 4 discs and they showcase the workplace in the 1970s with strikes and strike committees and even a few punch ups over the matter of union membership. Mark McManus (Taggart) makes an appearance through much of the series as Harry Carter a bolshy Australian business man who runs a rival firm that ends up merging with Hammond Transport Services Limited and who rubs everyone up the wrong way especially Mary Hammond and Edward Hammond. The tensions between Mary and Jennifer are still to the fore over the fact she and her late husband had an affair and a love child Barbara who turns 18 at the start of the series. Patrick O'Connell slips effortlessly into the role of Edward and is slightly less abrasive than Glyn Owen although he does have his moments. The production values are high and the scripts are well written and believable and it is watchable television. I am left at the end of episode 13 wondering when the third series will be released and hope we are not waiting ages for it. And add to that the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh series or a box set of series 3 to 7 to quench the thirst of us Hammond Transport Services fans. Bring on Paul Merroney!

This is a great series for those who grew up in the 1970s
This is a great series for those who grew up in the 1970s, which I fondly remember when in my early teens. The Brothers represents the first of those office-based business dramas that would be at the forefront of good, must-see TV entertainment, culminating in the much bigger audience popular series later on and throughout the 80s, like Dallas, Howards Way. The acting is superb - particularly from frosty, scheming busybody matriach Mary Hammond, played by the late Jean Anderson. The story lines are gripping and it is nice to look back and have a giggle at the cringeworthy 70s butterfly collar and loons fashions and feathercut and pageboy hairstyles, not to mention naming all the 70s Ford Granada, Capri and Cortina cars. A real indulgent nostalgic trip down memory lane which I am enjoying as much now as I did back then.

Waited for ages for series 2 of this great 70s series and it doesn't disappoint
Waited for ages for series 2 of this great 70s series and it doesn't disappoint, as the fights and squabbles in the Hammond family goes on. Apart from top brother Edward changing actor, didn't spoil the series at all, looks like action stations, with strikes, new company joining with Hammond's, and Jean Anderson the matriach of the family still at odds with her husband's mistress Jennifer Kingsley.

Still compulsive viewing after all this time!
If this were a book it would be a real page-turner. Great stories, superb scripts, brilliant acting. It was probably the most successful drama serial ("soap" if you must) of its time. If only we had telly like this today!

The Brothers - family haulage business.
Saw this series when it was on first in the seventies and it was great to see it again. The video and sound quality are better than expected, It isn't as dated I thought it would be and the acting from the main characters is strong for the time it was made. Recommended especially for those who remember it fondly.

Brothers Series 2
A very good series broadcast in 1973 and has 13 episodes. There are some good episodes, glad the series of the Brothers has been released on DVD although there is no date transmitted information for the series which you get with a Network DVD release.

Enjoyable family saga
Really enjoyed this family saga. Already had Series 1 and this follows on very well. One of the brothers was played by a different actor but it caused no confusion. Was there a Series 3?
