TROPICA - Giant Grenadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis) - 12 SeedsWorth knowing: This strong, ever-green climbing plant has light-green, oval leaves and from its third year of growth on produces 10 to 12 cm seized, red-white coloured flowers from summer to autumn. It is probably the most graceful of all passion flowers.Origin: The Giant Grenadilla is native in South America.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Soak the seeds in water at room temperature for a few hours and place them on moist seed starting soil afterwards. Cover the seeds thinly with earth. An even humidity and temperatures of 20° to 25°C will let the seeds germinate within 2 to 4 weeks.Place / Light: A bright to sunny place is ideal. The more sun the plant receives, the more flowers it develops. From May until the end of October, the plant can also be placed outdoors.Care: Water plentifully during growth period but avoid standing water. Well-drained standard soil will do for planting. Provide a climbing frame for the young plants. The plant should be supplied with tub plant fertilizer weekly from April until October. Soil too dry and poor of nutrients will quickly result in a yellowing of leaves.Winter period: Water sparsely from mid October on. In case the plant is not pruned, it has to be supplied with fertilizer every 4 weeks. During winter, the Giant Grenadilla should be placed in a bright and cool place, with temperatures between 5° and 10°C. When over-wintered in a warm place, the plant should be sprayed more often.
