As other reviewers have commented, the actual set you receive is a little different than pictured; the 5 crosses are not painted but are plain wood the same as the 5 noughts. The set arrived in a smart brown, labelled cardboard box which is good for gifting. Inside there is a basic instruction sheet with pictures and the wooden toy. The toy is a square wooden box with wooden lid. The lid is used to keep the noughts and crosses in the base and can also be used to play the game on as it is divided into nine squares courtesy of grooves in the surface. The game is small (12.7 x 12.7 x 2.5cm) so is portable but as others have pointed out, it might not be the best game for travel as the lid is not secured to the base in any way so you are in danger of it skidding off and perhaps losing some of the play pieces. However, having said this, I am fond of wooden toys and puzzles so I am happy to recommend.

Let’s face it, anything made in natural wood is on a winner from the start and this little games set is no exception.The box and all the pieces are made of wood and so the whole thing looks attractive and quite sophisticated. The top of the box lifts off to become the playing board and the chunky pieces are inside. The dividing lines between the playing squares are thin grooves.It is a compact little thing you could easily slip into travel bag or rucksack to play anywhere. It is very portable though it isn’t a ‘travel’ games as such because the pieces just sit on top of the board. If you were in a car or on a plane or train and there was some jolting or turbulence, the pieces would just slide off the board, rather than stay in place if it were a true ‘travel’ game. If the playing squares were recessed and the dividing lines raised then the pieces would stay put better if played while traveling - but that would be rather more involved manufacturing. It’s very sweet as it is, just not quite so ‘play anywhere’ as it mightJust to note: some of the listing photos show the X pieces in natural wood, some show them painted white. In my set both the Xs and the Os are natural, unpainted wood which I think looks better. It’s not like it’s drafts or chess and you need the colour to tell whose piece is whose - they’re either X or O! But I think ‘all wood’ just looks better than some painted.

This is a fairly tactile game handbooks okay on a side table , but basically it is an expensive way of playing noughts and crosses.

Noughts and crosses is a favourite in this house but we seem to go through so much paper when playing it, which I hate as it’s so wasteful.I never thought of a different way to play this without the waste before and now kicking myself after receiving this, that I didn’t look into this option before.It’s such a lovely little set as well at a excellent retail price of £8.99.A wooden Tic Tac Toe game (We know it as noughts & crosses in this house) it comes complete with a wooden box which you can store all the pieces in and then the lid turns into the game board which saves paper so eco friendly.It’s a decent size, the quality is fantastic and to be fair you can fault it in any way.The only thing I didn’t understand was in the photo it looked like you got white crosses but we had all the same colour (brown) which I would say makes it more nice looking and stylish.We are definitely looking into other wooden games from this seller.
