RMS - Walker Glide Balls

Pros: These tennis balls function as they are supposed to. That is, they give a smooth glide to my walker - very different from the way the 'skis' I used previously. Also, I like the fact that I can get them in colors that are NOT Big Bird yellow. The grey is nice in that it blends in with the walker legs.Cons: Attached pic shows how much they wear down in 2 1/2 weeks. I'm very disappointed in that. The first time I ordered these I was taken aback by this and decided to order the two pack. The pair you see in the picture will follow the first pair in the garbage shortly. I hope someone reading this has an answer to this delima. Another pro - they are cheap. (is that why they deteriorate so quickly?)(

These require a lot of hand strength to install. I have very little strength in my hands and I have arthritis. Be aware that while installing the slit will rip; there is no way around it. Even so, it usually doesn't seem to affect the overall performance. It would make sense to me to extend the length of the slit and reinforce each end of the slit so it doesn't rip any further. Or better yet, extend the slit even further and add a lace at one end of it so they wouldn't require hand strength most of us who use walkers don't have and they could be easily slipped on and tied to prevent them from slipping off. The nap on the bottom of the ball will immediately wear off but that's really not important. The length of their usefulness will be determined by how long the bottom of the ball remains intact. After using them for a while, you would be well advised to check the bottoms for wear frequently. If you have installed them over bare tubing and they wear through without you noticing, the bare tubing could damage your flooring. After going through a couple pairs of balls I decided it would be smarter to install them on the tubing with the rubber tip still on it. Admittedly, it is a lot harder to install over the rubber tip but doing that has saved my hardwood floors numerous times. A better design would be to increase the thickness of the bottom of the ball. Don't plan to use them outdoors. They aren't designed to stand up to the rough surfaces outside. All of this being said, these are exactly what I expected when I ordered them and I am satisfied with my purchase. As is the case with most accessories designed for use with walkers, they could definitely be improved (i.e., trays that have no built-in mechanism to prevent them from slipping up and down and spilling whatever is on them, plastic trays with no reinforcement so they will carry only light loads, baskets that will only fit walkers with straight bars in front, plastic basket inserts so flimsy they don't stand up to repeated use, etc.). My rating is a reflection of that.
